00:00<pparadis>birch: good deal :)
00:00<duhamel>i have just installed a fresh ubuntu studio on a ssd and while partitioning assigned existing /home fpartition as my /home partition
00:00<pparadis>!ubuntu
00:00<dpkg>Ubuntu is based on Debian, but it is not Debian. Only Debian is supported on #debian. Use #ubuntu (irc.freenode.net) instead. Even if the channel happens to be less helpful, support for distributions other than Debian is offtopic on #debian. See also <based on debian> and <ubuntuirc>.
00:00<duhamel>but when i try to acces home through the icon on desktop it's empty

00:02<duhamel>in terminal when i cd / home it's the old home partition how do i get the old home partition in the home icon.
00:02<duhamel>?
00:02<pparadis>!based on debian
00:02<dpkg>Your distribution may be based on and have software in common with Debian, but it is not Debian. We don't and cannot know what changes were made by your distribution (compare http://futurist.se/gldt/). #debian only supports Debian; please respect our choice to volunteer here to help Debian users. Support other distributions is off-topic on #debian, even if your own distro's channel is clueless or non-existent.
00:02<pparadis>!tell duhamel about ubuntuirc
00:02<duhamel>sorry guys.

05:11<aubreyr>noooes
05:12<vortek>is lost
05:12<aubreyr>what step are you on
05:12<aubreyr>you've added backports to your sources.list
05:12<aubreyr>?
05:12<aubreyr>as specified on the instructions page
05:12<vortek>yes
05:12<aubreyr>and you've run aptitude update
05:12<vortek>now i need to install kernel
05:13<vortek>yes

05:13-!-vicent [~vicent@190.191.145.127] has left #debian [Leaving]
05:13<aubreyr>so then you install linux-image-2.6-amd64 with the option "-t squeeze-backports" passed to aptitude
05:14<vortek>k
05:15<aubreyr>the -t option specifies which release you want to install the given package from
05:15<aubreyr>in this case backports
05:15<vortek>k
05:15<aubreyr>(you'd still need that release in your sources.list of course)
05:15<aubreyr>which you do
05:15<aubreyr>anywhoooo
05:16<vortek>ok so aptitude -t squeeze-backports linux-image-2.6-amd64
05:16<vortek> ?
05:17<aubreyr>don't forget install
05:17<vortek>before the -t?
05:17<aubreyr>'aptitude install -t squeeze-backports linux-image-2.6-amd64' ought to work

12:52<Myrrdin>Good day guys, I'm facing a problem with a friend's server, I have not the sightest clue how he managed to do this, but well somehow, after a boot problem, he decided the solution was to format /boot (which is indeed now empty), I tried grub-install on it, and a directory grub is now in place, but the partition as is, is just useless, the server doesnt boot! is there a way, to recover the boot partition, without actually touching the filesystem (t
12:52<Myrrdin>he data prtition ofc)? I've been googling for hours, I'm using a pxe booted sysresccd, where I can mount both data and /boot partitions.

22:31<sney>besides, a properly set up firewall should leave you with no need to maintain a blacklist unless you are serving the kind of users who will target you
