12:53<AlexLikeRock>3 Fedora’s approach
12:53<AlexLikeRock>Fedora’s default approach to official distribution has the project joining a
12:53<AlexLikeRock>Microsoft and Verisign developer program which will give them a key that
12:53<AlexLikeRock>can then be used to sign a “shim” bootloader. This shim loads GRUB 2,
12:53<AlexLikeRock>the GPLv3-covered GNU program whose job it is to boot the operating
12:53<AlexLikeRock>system kernel, in this case Linux. Because Fedora’s key will be “vouched”
12:53<AlexLikeRock>by Microsoft, it will be recognized by the firmware on the vast majority of
12:53<AlexLikeRock>desktops and laptops available.

20:38<pparadis>TheLaughingMan: that's a decent card. i've got a fair amount of experience with those, and they work well and are pretty reliable.
20:39<pparadis>TheLaughingMan: you may well wish to look at the BBU module for it as well. it's under the accessories tab on the page you linked.
20:41<pparadis>TheLaughingMan: one more thing to keep in mind: if the stuff you're using has to stay up, you need to buy two RAID cards. optimally, you'd have two identical chassis so you could just pull the disks out of a machine with problems and put them in the spare, but at minimum you need to have reserve components like RAID cards, power supplies, etc.
