12:29<dckx>hi. I've installed bitcoind from sid on a i386 system and got a warning about a denial of service vulnerability on in my version. This has been fixed in 0.6.2 and debian already has this version, but on i386 it's still 0.6.0.
12:30<dckx>what are the dependencies for a i386 release and why are there differences in the versions.
12:31<themill>dckx: it doesn't build properly on i386 https://buildd.debian.org/status/package.php?p=bitcoin

14:51<Glanzmann>Hello; I have a machine with 2 TByte disks. I want to install debian squeeze raid1:sda1/sdb1:/boot raid1:sda2/sdb2:dm-crypt-swap raid1:sda3/sdb3:dm-crypt-root. I did all the partitioning and installed the system. The system can't write grub. When I run fdisk -l I see that there is only an ept partition table?
14:51<Glanzmann>How do I tell debian to use hybrid partition tables (msdos for /boot) and ept for the rest of the game?
14:51<Glanzmann>Or is there a way to instlal grub with only an ept partition table?

22:24<amitz>TeruFSX: people have no idea about your level of "stable". don't use sid
22:24<Silence->TeruFSX: Is it a server or a workstation?
22:24<TeruFSX>workstation
22:25<TeruFSX>yeah after reading a bit more I figured that i probably shouldn't use sid
22:25<Silence->Then testing is recommended.
22:25<Silence->Or sid, if you need the absolute latest stuff (at the cost of less stability).
22:25<amitz>if you want to go sid, you can always run ubuntu ;-)

22:28<amitz>why the specific need for lenny?
22:28<ludacris>well any recent debian release is ok
22:28<Silence->Wheezy?
22:28<Silence->Lenny is a bit old.

22:36<ludacris>wheezy does that need to be compiled in order to be used?
22:36<youlysses>ludacris: Does wheezy need to be compilied to use? Is that what you are asking, or did I miss the begining of your question?
22:37<ludacris>thats my question
22:37<ludacris>never installed debian befoer
22:37<ludacris>before
22:38<youlysses>ludacris: No there's an psuedo-graphical installer that handles it for you. Are you planning to run stable, or install in then upgrade to testing?
22:38<ludacris>whats the difference between testing and stable releases?
22:38<Silence->ludacris: All you need to do is go to debian.org and download the iso of the system you want. With that file, create a bootable usb and choose the usb in your boot menu (F12), and it will start the installation.
22:39<ludacris>oh so i could dual boot with windows 7?
22:39<Silence->Yes.
22:39<youlysses>ludacris: Stable is ... well stable. It's a snapshot. Testing is more current, but not as well, again, ... stable. :-l
22:40<Silence->I can't recall if the debian installer will detect your windows partition and setup dual booting automatically or not. I have never used windows.
22:40<youlysses>And there's other levels above testing, but I wouldn't use it, ecspecially if you are new to debian.
22:40<Silence->Perhaps someone else can shed some light on that matter.
22:40<ouierd>I've been installing quite a bit and its done a good job every time grub updates.
22:41<ouierd>Of recognizing windows*
22:41<youlysses>Silence-: I'm pretty sure it doesn't, grub might, but either-way ludacris should check the wiki.
22:41<Silence->youlysses: mm
22:41<Silence->I know ubuntu does.
22:41<Silence->Perhaps something that should be addressed for future versions of the installer.
22:41<Silence->But that's not relevant to this channel.
22:42<ludacris>is there a difference between debian and linux mint debian edition?
22:42<Silence->yes.
