Don't ask if you can ask, if anyone uses it, or pick one person to ask. We're all volunteers; make it easy for us to help you. 02:40<JIyHaTuK>debian 6..
02:40<ompaul>that is how it works
02:41<ompaul>if you want it to work somehow differently you will need to rewrite it

02:43<jm_>yes, just like with filenames
02:44<JIyHaTuK>in ~/.bashrc I have records about it...

03:15<AtomicSpark>JIyHaTuK: I've been lurking, is the bash-completion package installed? Seems to work fine with sudo in ... the popular derivative of Debian. However, I also think I have this same issue. Not on Debian ATM, but might be due to having a minimal install first. No fancy bashrc file.

10:27<topro_>hi, I'm encountering udp packet loss which seems to be tx-buffer related. I know that packet loss is what udp comes with. but in that case there seems to be an actual cause for that abnormal kind of packet loss and i need to reduce packet loss as much as possible. so where would be the right place to ask for some advice, please?

17:21<sammy>enabling the source repo for stable and using apt to build the package for my testing/unstable install would be the best way to go, right? its a source repo so I shouldnt have any 'mixed stable/testing/unstable' issues as I would if I enabled the binary repos... he says not wanting to break things for one silly package
17:21<sammy>Ive done this the other way round multiple times but Ive never come across something in stable that wasn't also in testing apparently. (the package does have a few versions in testing but they are for other archs)

21:27<abrotman>so what would you like to do now?
21:27<jaxx_rr>well id like to remove it
21:27<jaxx_rr>the stuff I installed
21:27<jaxx_rr>coz I think the apt-get isnt working coz if it
21:27<abrotman>i bet not ..

21:27<jaxx_rr>it give an error
21:29<jaxx_rr>http://pastebin.com/inrAPa56
21:29<abrotman>based on the commands you pasted, you overwrote system libraries .. you can try to get the packages with wget and use dpkg to install them
21:29<jaxx_rr>also the last make install gave an error
21:30<jaxx_rr>http://pastebin.com/Eg7DEeh9
21:30<sney>jaxx_rr: here's your quick solution. reinstall debian
21:31<jaxx_rr>cant
21:31<Eryn_1983_FL>ok peeps i just fixed that error earlier with moving the device.map file...
21:32<Eryn_1983_FL>so um can you let the developer know next time to just move the file to a .old or something?
21:32<jaxx_rr>abrot u know what I could do ?
21:32<abrotman>why can't you reinstall
21:32<jaxx_rr>coz theres some application on it thats being used

21:33<abrotman>no, you overwrote the libraries the system installed, so you have to reinstall the packages you overwrote, and pray that works

21:37<abrotman>not what i asked
21:38<jaxx_rr>and the owner that rented it gave me ssh access

21:41<sney>normally, when the system hasn't been damaged by someone following bad advice, yes
21:41*abrotman would be calling the owner
21:42<sney>agreed
21:42<jaxx_rr>ill be telling him when hes back...
21:42<sney>jaxx_rr: you stand a very good chance of making things worse if you keep trying to fix it. step away and let someone know what you did
21:43<abrotman>let someone who knows what they're doing fix it
21:43<jaxx_rr>well since apt-get install gettext gives the same error as apt-get install mc .. its prolly not that bad
21:43<jaxx_rr>the guy that runs the website is away..
21:43<abrotman>you also thought compiling libraries wasn't that bad ..
21:44<jaxx_rr>yea well the site that gave me wrong info should be shut down..
21:44<sney>or contact the hosting company and have them restore a backup from before you decided to play around
21:44<abrotman>jaxx_rr: it's your fault for following that site, not theirs
21:44<jaxx_rr>they respond with delay
21:44<sney>the site that gave you wrong info was a forum thread from 2004. the date alone should be a clear indicator that it's not relevant
21:44<abrotman>jaxx_rr: those insturctoins may be perfectly usable with a system from 2002
21:44<abrotman>oh, i was close :)
21:44<jaxx_rr>well how can I know when this debian version was released
