02:11<dondelelcaro>Analingus: openoffice.org-* doesn't exist anymore; it's all libreoffice now.
02:11<dondelelcaro>Analingus: so you really shouldn't get stuck on that; If you do get dependency errors, ask here.
02:11<jm_>it was openoffice in squeeze, wasn't it?
02:11-!-frh [~frank@flowvpn.flowtraders.nl] has joined #debian
02:11<jm_>or rather is
02:12<jm_>I remember going from openoffice to libreoffice from bpo
02:12<dondelelcaro>right, in wheezy it's libreoffice, in squeeze it's openoffice
02:13<CYBERiBorg>i did read that i must edit a file "sudoers" to give permissions to normal users to auto-start "firestarter" now i found the file and i did load it into KWrite ... but i cant save it ... how do i edit sudoers?
02:14<Thorgrin>you cannot write to that file as a normal user
02:14<dondelelcaro>CYBERiBorg: as root, run visudo or similar.
02:15<CYBERiBorg>ok let me try :D

02:17<Analingus>well yeah, if I knew how to "downgrade"
02:18<Analingus>see dist upgrade didnt finish, but it "upgraded" heaps of stuff
02:18<Analingus>I set my repos back to squeeze, but dont know how to reverse this
02:18<chaos>i don't think there's a downgrade .. especially if your packages are all messed up :)
02:18<Analingus>lol
02:18<Analingus>thanks
02:19<Analingus>dats ok, all the updates are allready cached in my squid
02:19<Analingus>Ill do three installs at once
02:19<chaos>last time i wanted to downgrade i set my dists to testing from unstable and let it alone and let time turn my packages into testing from unstable :)
02:19<Analingus>lol
02:20<chaos>but nobody wants to assure me that hdparm can't physically damage my drive :(

05:42<grammoboy>I'd like to replace my mums ubuntu 10.04 with debian. How stable is testing these days?
05:42<grammoboy>I like to have the gnome 3 desktop for her
05:44<babilen>grammoboy: It's usable but not stable by definition. Debian uses "stable" in the sense of "unchanging" and not in the sense of "bug free, usable, ..." which often causes confusion. See "/msg dpkg stable" for more details on what we mean by stable. As far as I am concerned wheezy would be fine for everybody who knows how to deal with problems here and there.

06:31<babilen>r2d2: I just assume that you did now. Therefore: Revert *any* changes you made to that file and create the /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/ directory. Create the 25-synaptics.conf therein with the content I pasted to http://paste.debian.net before. Make sure you add 'Option "TapButton2" "2"' in there. Before you restart run "sunclient TapButton2=2" to check if you actually want 2 ..

08:58<babilen>uju: qt-sdk is just a metapackage that depends on typical QT related -dev libraries. qt-sdk has been packaged for wheezy and sid, but not for squeeze. You can, however, still install the libraries that it depends on. These library would, in their entirety, provide the "SDK" you are looking for.
08:58<babilen>,depends qt-sdk --release wheezy
08:58<judd>Package qt-sdk in wheezy/i386 -- depends: build-essential, cmake, gdb, git-core, libqt4-dev, libqt4-opengl-dev, libphonon-dev, qt4-designer, qt4-dev-tools, qt4-doc, qt4-doc-html, qt4-qmake, qtcreator, qtcreator-doc, subversion.

12:00<SynrG>!ask
12:00<dpkg>If you have a question, just ask! For example: "I have a problem with ___; I'm running Debian version ___. When I try to do ___ I get the following output ___. I expected it to do ___." Don't ask if you can ask, if anyone uses it, or pick one person to ask. We're all volunteers; make it easy for us to help you. If you don't get an answer try a few hours later or on debian-user@lists.debian.org. See <smart questions><errors>.

14:44<perlwizard>borko got any free space left ?
14:44<Japs_88>borko: you can either shrink one of the other two partitions and create free space, or use one of the two

14:44<borko>yes I do have spacse left
14:44<perlwizard> -> installer will present you with a partitioner where you can specify location for your / and other things
14:44<perlwizard>that's where the installer would put debian
14:45<borko>but I only get option to repartite entire hard disk, with warning that I will lose all my data
14:45<Japs_88>borko: select manual partitioning
14:45<perlwizard>^
14:46<borko>I tried. When I do that, it says that that is not bootable drive
14:46<Japs_88>have you got many hd, or just one?
14:46<borko>when I flag it as bootable, it wont work again
14:47<Japs_88>you don't need to flag it, it will be done automatically by the installer
14:47<Japs_88>do the manual procedure
14:47<borko>yes, just one hdd with three partitions, on c:/ is win7
14:47<Japs_88>you will be presented with the partition table
14:47<Japs_88>and you'll see FREE SPACE
14:47<Japs_88>you will select it

14:48<Japs_88>primary
14:49<Japs_88>and then use the remaining space as linux swap
14:49<Japs_88>you will not touch the other partitions and your data should be safe

14:49<borko>I have never used a linux based os before. Where to type that?

14:56<perlwizard>yeah, that works

15:00<blast007>borko: If you have partitions you don't need, you could have deleted those before even loading the installer (from Windows Disk Management). I think the installer would then have had an option to automatically partition the free space of the drive for use with Linux.

21:52<pfdint>It's possible to share one private key amongst multiple systems. Note that this should only be the case if the machines are closely related enough (within the same administrative boundary) so that compromising one compromises the other. It looks like you can do this two ways: 1) copy your .ssh directory to the new machine, then shh-add for each key, or 2) ssh-copy-id, though i'm not sure if that only copies the public key
21:52<pfdint>Yeah, ssh-copy-id only copies public key
21:54<pfdint>Also don't rule out using machine equivalence, adding each host to the other's /etc/hosts.equiv file, but I held out on that advice because I'm not sure if it's as secure as ssh
21:54<pfdint>Am I helping at all, dodo?
21:54<chealer>are other Amarok users able to read Audio CDs on testing or unstable?
