04:13<bones_was_here>well in that case dpkg's arch would be the appropriate way, since that determines for which arch the packages are downloaded
04:13<bones_was_here>if you call 'file' it will tell you the arch of any binary

13:06<lduros>retrospectacus: I'm just trying to understand how it gets translated into what "Firefox" source expects to be the .mozconfig file in the root directory (or at least that's how FF custom builds are done)... But is there some documentation on how rules files are written in general? So I can get more attuned to the syntax? Thx

14:31<SynrG>i have one system protected this way: rdiff-backup to a local disk, tar up the whole thing and copy to a windows fileshare. the company network backups pick that up and copy it to tape. the tapes get cycled off-site.

14:32<SynrG>so if i need to fall back to an arbitrary revision within the past couple of months, it's as close as the local filesystem. if the local filesystem is trashed, i can pick it off last-night's copy to the windows fileshare. if that's trashed too, i pick it off a tape, usually on site, but if older, off-site.
14:33<SynrG>if you're trusting others to handle your backups, make sure you test it. ask them to recover specific files for specific dates.

20:43<aic>hello, my remote Squeeze servers unlike my Lenny servers do not output rc messages to the console in other words the KVM, i of course have no quiet keyword in cmdline, and I have INIT_VERBOSE=yes and VERBOSE=yes in /etc/default/rcS
20:43<aic>right now i am looking at changes between the two in /lib/init and /lib/lsb but so far no modifications produced output
20:43<aic>however i refuse to believe i'm the only admin in the world dealing with this problem
20:44<aic>and that's where i'm hoping to find someone who solved it long ago
20:45<aic>only kernel messages are printed to the console, and echo foobar >/dev/console shows up on the KVM
20:45<aic>but nothing about daemon startup and more importantly FSCK output is shown -- which leads junior colleagues to believe servers are "frozen" while in truth servers are checking the file-system
20:46<aic>which leads to perpetual reboots...
20:46<aic>which leads to actual file-system problems :)

23:20<fix>well I do think so
23:20<fix>I have no hardware acceleration at all
23:21<fix>I know its a crappy gpu, but cmon, I can run openarena under dx ffs
23:21<fix>but not in debian
23:21<fix>.02fps
23:22<sney>try a kernel or Xorg from backports if you're on squeeze
23:22<fix>Im allready using 3.2.0-0 from backports
23:22<fix>and xorg from backports doesnt help
23:22<fix>in fact, it locks up my gui at random
23:22<fix>so I removed it
23:22<sney>"detected a hung gpu" implies a hardware issue
23:23<fix>no
23:23<fix>this is a driver issue
23:23<fix>and Im not the only one
23:23<fix>google reveals countless others trying to resolve this to no avail
23:23<sney>better make sure there's a bug filed then
23:23<fix>erm
