01:19<dpkg>Ubuntu is based on Debian, but it is not Debian. Only Debian is supported on #debian. Use #ubuntu on chat.freenode.net instead. Even if the channel happens to be less helpful, support for distributions other than Debian is offtopic on #debian. See also <based on debian> and <ubuntuirc>.

03:05<Guest4564>ok its been awhile since i installed grub . where do i get it from
03:06<jm_>you already have it installed (the package) - what was meant, was that you'll need to put it back on MBR (or use windows loader to load linux ...)
03:06<jm_>!fixmbr
03:06<dpkg>To reinstall <GRUB> simply boot to your Debian install disk, live CD or whatever else you have, switch to the other console (Alt-F2), then mount your root filesystem (mount -t ext2 /dev/whatever /target ; mount --bind /dev /target/dev ; mount -t proc none /target/proc), then chroot into it (chroot /target) and run "update-grub && grub-install /dev/whatever". Also ask me about <rescue mode>, <dual boot guide>, <supergrub>.

07:47<Airwave>I'm having trouble understanding why the unstable version of mumble-server (and mumble) haven't been migrated to testing yet.
07:47<SynrG>because we're in a freeze
07:48<SynrG>http://packages.qa.debian.org/m/mumble.html
07:48<SynrG>Not touching package due to block request by freeze (contact debian-release if update is needed)

07:48<SynrG>still doesn't change the rules. an unblock request needs to be made

07:50<chaos>how do i set up an smtp server?
07:50<SynrG>sec, maybe an unblock request was made ...
07:50<Airwave>babilen: This is the bug in question: http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=675955

07:54<Airwave>SynrG: A new version of mumble was released in sid since the last message of that report was made though.
07:55<Airwave>Fixing both the problem with 348-1 in Wheezy and the problem with 349-2 in Sid.
07:55<SynrG>yeah. i guess there has been some communication with release outside of this report, then
07:55<Airwave>Ok.
07:55<chaos>jm_: also ... it says that system with dynamic IP addresses should use smarthost

13:46<hawt-user>ill check with other mouse
13:46<retrospectacus>Guest4637: what kind of fs? probably add the "user" option to your mount command. (man mount)
13:46<Guest4637>retro: thanks, will try
13:46<SynrG>and after that, mount as the user, not root

13:47<retrospectacus>that would be with using fstab, SynrG ?
13:48<hawt-user>other mouse different mark same issue
13:48<SynrG>hawt-user: when you say laggy, do you mean the motions are delayed, or jerky?
13:48<hawt-user>delayed
13:49<SynrG>any other usb devices?
13:49<hawt-user>only this
13:50<Calinou>hawt-user: then reboot.
13:50<retrospectacus>did you try resetting the wireless link ?
13:50<Calinou>suspending on linux... .-.
13:50<hawt-user>hm
13:50<Calinou>and yes, better use a wired mouse
13:50<Calinou>wireless == latency
13:50<SynrG>not so much as to be noticable
13:50<retrospectacus>yeah my wireless mouse is fine
13:51<SynrG>it should appear instantaneous. and lag is strange. that's like events are piling up and Xorg is not reacting
13:51<Calinou>wireless mouses and keyboards are not only pointless, and 5-15ms is definitely noticable when playing games
13:51<SynrG>i've only seen this once before. eeepc model 4G. i forget the particulars now ....
13:52<retrospectacus>Calinou: I stronly disagree
13:52<SynrG>Calinou: do you think if he were complaining about 5-15ms he'd be coming here complaining about it being laggy?
13:52<hawt-user>my mouse is wired
13:52<Guest4637>retrospectacus / sney: I'm confused. I have found the user variable in man mount, but I don't know how to use it. Do I edit my previous command? Do I need to do something to the fstab file?
13:52<hawt-user>and i dont reboot the machine
13:52<hawt-user>only suspending
13:53<hawt-user>maybe this takes effect
13:53<hawt-user>i m new for this distro
13:53<SynrG>hawt-user: could be suspend is somehow broken. try from a fresh boot without suspending. see if the mouse response is fine. then test again after suspending

13:54<saep>My mouse was laggy today as well. I was suspending my notebook for weeks and a reboot "solved" the issue.
13:54<SynrG>also, check system resources .. if you always suspend you may have something with a memory leak

13:55<SynrG>over time, this grows. eventually the system is so busy running around trying to find memory, it can't keep up with the mouse

16:07<fix>alsa
16:07<babilen>terrible_: yeah, remove the totally unsupported and unrecommended debian-multimedia entries from your sources.list and run "apt-get update". 20:36<sney>do you know if the hard drive is good? that's not a new laptop

20:37<siddy>can't you plug it in?

20:38<sney>it's failing on a disk copy operation if it's "installing software" so that's either a) bad drive, b) bad install media, or c) bad motherboard

21:43<mjacob>hi
21:43<Rodrive>I looked into the database and the user admin is here, i tried to make another user but nothing worked.
21:43<mjacob>trying to install dropbear with aptitude aborts with an error: http://pastebin.com/e4uakBLx is this my fault?
21:43<mjacob>i'm installing this in a chroot environment (wheezy) to enable remote cryptsetup password entrance
21:44<sney>mjacob, try purging it and removing the package from /var/cache/apt/archives and then try to install it again
21:44<simonlnu>seems like there's a bug in that cryptsetup script
21:45<simonlnu>or it's not getting what it needs as data
