00:32<bsaunder>Q: a link to how to make apt-cdrom work with mounted isos? Ive got my fstab setup, mount -a works, all wheezy isos are ls'able, no combination of apt-cdrom options has worked and just adding sources.lst lines like "deb [arch=amd64] file:/home/ISOs/debian-7.0.0-amd64-DVD-1 wheezy main contrib" dont work, ideas?

00:44<bsaunder>Failed to fetch file:/home/ISOs/debian-7.0.0-i386-amd64-source-DVD-1/dists/wheezy/contrib/binary-amd64/Packages File not found
00:47<bsaunder>perhaps its working also gives a whole bunch of "Ign file: wheezy/contrib Translation-en_US" errors that dont make me feel comfortable

00:53<greymetal>When I plug in a USB drive it is recognized in Places as "250 GB Unrecognized". It asks for a root password to mount it but then says "One or more block devices are holding /dev/dm-0". I can't format it using Disk Utility either. Can anyone help? There isn't any data on there I need to save so happy to nuke it.
00:54<detrout>greymetal: was the drive used in a raid at some point?
00:54-!-procyon [] has quit [Read error: Operation timed out]
00:54<greymetal>not that I'm aware of. I pulled it out of an old usb enclosure and was able to see it under Ubuntu 13.04 earlier today
00:55<greymetal>I also tried to use fdisk to format the partition but it gave me this error "WARNING: Re-reading the partition table failed with error 22: Invalid argument.
00:56<greymetal>The kernel still uses the old table."

00:56-!-pbizzle [] has quit [Read error: Operation timed out]
00:56<fede_work>bsaunder, i just spent 2 days on it
00:57<greymetal>detrout: me too. i've never seen a usb drive act like this
00:57<fede_work>apt-cdrom won't work for such repo
00:57<detrout>ah greymetal did you do /dev/sdN or /dev/sdN1 for the fdisk?
00:57<greymetal>detrout: no fdisk /dev/dm-0
00:57<greymetal>detrout: it isn't mount under /dev/sd*
00:57<detrout>isn't dm for raid?
00:58<detrout>or at least things managed with mdadm
00:58<greymetal>detrout: that is what most of the pages I've found talk about. it just auto mounts it there and I don't seem to have a way to umount it
00:59<detrout>Is mdadm running?
00:59<bsaunder>fede_work, surely there must be an install guide for "you want multiarch i386 adn amd64 to install from downloaded isos" config somewhere...
00:59<greymetal>detrout: i'm installing it now :)
01:00-!-mode/#debian [+l 575] by debhelper
01:00<fede_work>bsaunder, sadly there isn't such a tip&tricks around, i had to figure it out.. not that hard though
01:00<detrout>greymetal: also if md is using the device there should be some info in /proc/mdstat
01:00<fede_work>bsaunder, you should add your repo to fstab
01:00<fede_work>then edit sources.list this way:
01:00<fede_work>deb [ trusted=yes ] file:/media/usb0/ wheezy main contrib
01:01<fede_work>instead of cdrom, it has to be considered as file:/
01:01<bsaunder>fede_work, by repo you mean the mount command for the iso? and in the [ trusted=yes ] can I added i386?
01:01<fede_work>trusted is necessary if you want to give it priority over internet official repo for packages you already stored
01:01-!-Itzcuauhtli [~Itzcuauht@] has quit [Quit: Saliendo]
01:02<fede_work>about ur question, yes
01:03<fede_work>i downloaded 3 dvds, put them on a usbpen (in different partitions), and wanted to install packages from there when available, instead of redownload everytime
01:03<bsaunder>fede_work, still get a bunch of Ign file: wheezy/contrib Translation-en_Us, do you know anything about that? (get that from apt-get update)
01:03<bsaunder>fede_work (me 2, live on 2g cell for internet :( :( :( )
01:04<greymetal>detrout: mdstat doesn't have any useful info in it. mdadm doesn't think /dev/dm-0 is an md device either...
01:04<fede_work>hmm not sure it is a bad news.. can't test it right now to give an easy hint
01:04-!-qerter [] has quit [Remote host closed the connection]
01:04<fede_work>but you can test it differently
01:05<greymetal>detrout: i'm going to try to plug it into a windows box and see if it will let me format it
01:05-!-tinymontgomerysayshi [] has joined #debian
01:05<fede_work>once you updated ur sources.list correctly, then you can check if a package present in your dvd gets downloaded over internet or not
01:05<bsaunder>fede_work: did you do i386 also or just amd64?
01:05-!-m31 [] has joined #debian
01:05<detrout>greymetal: ok, you might also want to check dmesg and search for dm-0
01:06<fede_work>just amd64, didn't check for multiarch (though i just noticed i messed things up after installed skype i386 yesterday....)
01:06<fede_work>anyway, your best friend is `apt-get --print-uris install *package*`
01:07<fede_work>to check if things are going to be installed from correct repository
01:08<bsaunder>fede_work, I commented out the i386 and multiarch...though I get those warnings it seemed to work, Ive also got ALL http stuff commented out, synaptic install of bmon (on dvd 3) worked :)
01:08<fede_work>no problem :)
01:12<bsaunder>fede_work?, any idea why squeeze had 8 dvds and wheezy only 3?
01:12<greymetal>detrout: windows didn't even acknowledge the disk :)
01:13<greymetal>detrout: i think maybe this was an encrypted ubuntu disk at some point
01:13<greymetal>detrout: "[ 16.398744] EXT3 FS on dm-1, internal journal"
01:13<fede_work>bsaunder, no clue, i installed debian first time in life a week ago :P
01:14<bsaunder> to linux or just deb?
01:14<fede_work>anyway, this is interesting topic, i already installed some packages i need that were online but not on 3 dvds
01:15<fede_work>nah, i started slackware around 2001, then jumped on ubuntu since 6 years or so
01:15<detrout>oh i wonder if its lvm?
01:16<fede_work>but i want back a serious distro, gonna rebuild my lan and need smthing that fit all my usecases
01:17<bsaunder>cool...all of my debian stuff up until squeeze was PDA stuff on the tired of fedora, liked the everything in the world on 8 dvd's and switched to deb...thats why I was wondering only 3 :(
01:18<greymetal>detrout: yeah that's what i'm thinking too. i'm booting an ubuntu livecd

03:57<blubberdiblub>marmay, well, if it's ntfs-3g, the kernel log won't tell you a lot, i guess. ntfs-3g uses the fuse infrastructure and is thus implemented in userspace
04:00<marmay>blubberdiblub, how can I get more information from ntfs-3g? Actually I did not expect do find a lot in dmesg, but at least some message that, for example, mount failed.
04:01<blubberdiblub>marmay, so they disappear directly after mounting? well, fuse does provide a mount option to enable debug messages
04:02-!-tuvok [] has quit [Ping timeout: 480 seconds]
04:03<marmay>blubberdiblub, the files never reappear when remounting (or umount, mount). Sometimes I have to do a lazy umount, but not always.
04:03<blubberdiblub>marmay, try the "debug" mount option
04:03<marmay>I will try to read more about the debug messages from ntfs-3g and maybe I will try if the error also occurs when using the kernel module. Afterwards, I will either file a bug report or come back here. Thank you.

08:29<ryx>but yeah, could be a pure kernel problem afterall

08:29<abrotman>it could be the amount of RAM the BIOS has allocated to the video card?
08:30<ryx>SynrG: yeah
08:30<SynrG>i'm pretty much out of ideas

11:52<mgv>what should one do if a package (auto-complete-el and auto-install-el) has an incorrect dependency and the bugs (#689312 and #694780) were filed last year and ignored by the maintainer?
11:52<haylo|cgraf>celestia thats it. apt-cache search celestia , or maybe "qgis" for if you want to turn it into a something on GIS in the classroom

22:30<leon>Hello everyone, I been looking for the drivers for my laptop, with no luck I even tried the unofficial Debian 7 + non free drivers (live) and it couldnt find my wireless card when I tried $ifconfig
22:31<stderr>nightsh: Odd. Linux/Unix programs normally stay away from "?" as an option, since it would have to be escaped to avoid the shell mistaking it for a wildcard.
22:32<stderr>nightsh: Are you sure you don't mean -h or --help?
22:32<aidalgol>leon: Might be you need to load a kernel module from the non-free driver package(s).
22:34<nightsh>stderr: not sure, since I haven't seen the prompt in a while, but I'll surely see it soon, since I plan to dist-upgrade this morning
22:35<leon>@aidalgol: are you talking about the website?
22:35<nightsh>afaik, apt-listbugs is a ruby script, so it should be easy to look into it
22:36<aidalgol>leon: Er, no. I meant that the wifi driver you're trying probably installs a kernel module, but it won't be loaded automatically until the next boot, so you have to insert the module yourself.
