07:25<daemonkeeper>It's easy to configure and very simple to configure it as a relay for a real(tm) mail server using SASL.
07:25<adhawkins>As I said, all I want to be able to do is forward any locally generated mail via a smarthost
07:25<adhawkins>This is for a number of 'server' VMs, where I want all mail to go through a single point.
07:26<adhawkins>So it will only be used for automatically generated mails from cron and the like

09:58<stderr>dragon: Maybe you could split it up in smaller programs. One program that draw the GUI and outputs the input of the various fields in a simple format like "FIELD1=...\nFIELD2=...\n". Then another program that takes that and a LaTeX-template as input and outputs a new LaTeX file with the various values filled in. Then a simple wrapper to call the GUI, make the LaTeX file, compile the LaTeX file and print it...

09:59<stderr>If you later decide that you made a bad choice regarding the GUI toolkit, you can simply make another GUI using another toolkit.
10:00<stderr>You could even make a simple text-interface for the first version...
10:01<dragon>other than wx what can i use??

10:04<blast007>dragon: and like dusxmt said, the Mono Project can be used to compile and run C# applications on Debian. I've run unmodified C# .exe's on Linux systems using Mono. There's even a 'monodevelop' IDE for writing applications in C# (as well as some other languages).

13:56<dusxmt>I know I asked this already 4 hours ago, but I'll ask again, in case someone who can answer me came. Is there a way to emulate pulseaudio? Is there some kind of wrapper that allows Pulseaudio apps to work with alsa/oss? I have an application which only outputs sound via pulseaudio, but installing pulseauio causes my internal mic to not work and random sounds to come out of my speakers.

15:34<cgraf>mixing sid with stable, and then apt-pinning it, does not work well habstinat . and is not supported from my understanding. Better to run sid in a chroot, or vm, and if you really need a package, get the .deb directly. 16:20<holden87>and somehow i was always beating around the bush
16:20<jardiamj>any suggestion guys? this gnome in fallback mode is so ugly
16:20<MichaelP>default kde install with iceweasel koversation and vlc open is 1.3 gig.. got to uninstall some of kde..
16:20<holden87>with derivatives, and now finally, pure Debian
16:20<stderr>jardiamj: I would suggest XFCE.
16:21<jardiamj>OldSoldier, it was working before, but I installed cinnamon, and then I decided to get rid of gnome-shell so I removed it....

16:23<OldSoldier>try reinstalling the meta package
16:23<cgraf>jardiamj: if you want a slimmer DE or VM , xfce, lxde , dwm , twm , awesome, openbox, fluxbox . and just vecause you reinstalled it, does not mean that you got all of the deopendencies you might have removed when you uninstalled it

20:16<thatguychuck15>I am having difficulty getting dvd's to automount with xfce. USB devices mount just fine. I have enabled removable drives/media options in thunar volume management. After inserting a DVD, if I run any command that scans (such as blkid, or cat /dev/sr1) the dvd will mount and show in thunar and desktop. I have searched and there are some posts but I couldn't find a solution that applied to me. Is anyone familiar?
