04:28<babilen>Infiltrator: Ask them :) -- I would be all for a predictable scheme. But we also have a confusion of iso 639-2 language code and and iso 3166 country codes. The latter is understandable as some of these small channels are rather social communities specific to one country (that just happens to speak a single language) than a purely technical help channel such as this (#debian-en)

I checked /etc/resolv.conf and they seem fine. Is there some obvious thing I should look for that shows why I can barely get GMail to work on the iceweasel browser ?

20:17<ectospasm>wheezyuser: why don't you state the actual problem you're having? You hint at name resolution problems, but never state what is wrong.
20:17<ectospasm>!ask
20:17<dpkg>If you have a question, just ask! For example: "I have a problem with ___; I'm running Debian version ___. When I try to do ___ I get the following output ___. I expected it to do ___." Don't ask if you can ask, if anyone uses it, or pick one person to ask. We're all volunteers; make it easy for us to help you. If you don't get an answer try a few hours later or on debian-user@lists.debian.org. See <smart questions><errors>.
20:18<wheezyuser>ectospasm, well ... I type a simple url into iceweasel and get a spinning little thing and then .. minutes later I get a page .. or not
20:18<ectospasm>wheezyuser: have you tried another browser?
20:18<wheezyuser>in fact .. simply going to GMail is a multi-minute affair
20:18<wheezyuser>no
20:19<wheezyuser>just the firefox in wheezy .. which is iceweasel and it usually works great

20:19<ectospasm>always good to have another browser at your disposal, just in case.
20:19<wheezyuser>perhaps I should look into a throughput test .. or turn off DHCP and try a hard coded ip address
20:19<wheezyuser>I can go look into MSIE for Debian :-)
20:19<ectospasm>it's not likely to be a DNS or DHCP related issue.
20:19<wheezyuser>or Opera
20:19<ectospasm>wheezyuser: why not chromium?

20:22<ectospasm>wheezyuser: Opera is NOT open source.

22:40<ptr>the problem seems to be that despite the presence of "format { }" in the swap partition declaration, the swap partition is set to "Keep". Note that there's no option to change this in the partition editing dialog. However, selecting "use as" and picking "swap area" again switches it to "f" and the install proceeds.
22:41<ptr>"K" obviously doesn't make sense since there's no swap area there, so it's failing to find it and throwing an error
