01:32<EmleyMoor>I have three machines on wheezy - two of them take notice of proposed-updates, the other lists versions of packages therein as "available" but does not automatically upgrade to them. Why the diffeent behaviour?
01:32-!-JanC_ [~janc@ip-213-49-97-153.dsl.scarlet.be] has joined #debian
01:34<EmleyMoor>Also, is there a good way to exercise/test a hard disk? It's got nothing on it (bar a filesystem if that helps) at present)
01:34-!-equation [~equation@97.97.247.29] has joined #debian
01:35<ectospasm>EmleyMoor: hdparm could do that.
01:35<ectospasm>Also, smartmontools
01:35<ectospasm>smartmontools is probably better for that purpose
01:35<ectospasm>hdparm can be dangerous!
01:35<EmleyMoor>ectospasm: I'm looking for a "shot" tool, not an "ongoing"
01:36<ectospasm>both can do oneshot analysis

01:40<ectospasm>EmleyMoor: what are you trying to determine?
01:40<EmleyMoor>Whether or not there is a surface fault
01:41<ectospasm>EmleyMoor: smartctl --help will give you some guidance.
01:41<ectospasm>That or "man smartctl"

01:41*EmleyMoor is trying but cannot see anything useful
01:41<ectospasm>I'd start with "smartctl --all /dev/sdX"
01:41<ectospasm>if the disk has reported a surface fault to SMART, that will display it.
01:41<EmleyMoor>Done that... non-exhaustive.
01:43<EmleyMoor>Ah - found a test that may be good...
01:43<EmleyMoor>Need to check back after 08:23

05:51<mxpwr>.rar-archive then.
05:52<musca>!rar
05:52<dpkg>Roshal ARchive (RAR) is a proprietary archive file format used mostly by 3l33+ war3z d00dz. To extract, use either "rar", "unrar" or "p7zip-rar" in non-free, ask me about <non-free sources>. "unrar-free" in main cannot extract RAR3 archives. The rar package can create archives, but costs money (see the license). See also <unar>. http://www.rarlab.com/ http://www.unrarlib.org/faq.html

08:38<MelRay>Hi folks...Need some networking help. I now have a business account cable modem with 5 ports. There are 5 static ip addresses on the account. At this time I have one used on my router on nic1. Nic 2 is a gigabit card and I need help understanding how I would integrate the other 4 static ip addresses to all point to Nic2? Would a switch do this where I could use 4 cat 5 cables out of the modem, then one cat 5 out to Nic2?

08:56<MelRay>wompa:: Ok thank you
08:58<MelRay>Let me back up...the reason I asked here and not ##networking is because I'm sure linux may have a way to bind the 4 static ip addresses to one port? No negating the need to use hardware
08:59<TobiX>MelRay: You can have as many IP adresses as you want on any interface with any operating system.

20:23<careet>Hey guys - kind of a noob question here, but I can't get this working. I'm on a laptop with a Sandy Bridge i7 with integrated graphics, and in trying to get some light Steam games running, among other things, I'm trying to go easy mode and install Intel's Linux Graphics Installer, which is a GUI that autoupdates its drivers. I can't install the .deb without having a version of libglib of at least 2.35.9, but I'm on Wheezy a
20:23<careet>nd the newest in the repos is 2.0-0. Is there a way to just update libglib (and any necessary dependencies), or do I need to use the Jessie or Sid repos to do this? This is my latest attempt to get some light Steam games to run without stuttering like crazy, for what it's worth.

21:46<nickdaly>thanks sney and themill. I'll get rid of the bugger, just to clear the nonfree software: I didn't have trouble with crashes, without it on Squeeze, but it was installed with Wheezy
21:47<themill>It's no more non-free than the microcode that's already on your CPU.
