10:11<SynrG>i don't see why pins are needed at all in that case
10:12<SynrG>and yes, setting APT::Default-Release to testing is reasonable in that case
10:12<SynrG>but experimental is automatically pinned at 1 so it shouldn't matter

10:20<Maulkin>ronny: try #debian-next
10:20<Maulkin>ronny: Also, be aware that your setup is very unsupported.
10:20<Maulkin>ronny: you may well be on your own and need to do a lot of research yourself.
10:21<themill>ronny: there's no place for "stable" in that sort of set-up. experimental isn't somewhere you really want to be going if you're having to ask these sorts of questions
10:21<ronny>Maulkin: it mostly worked so far, except for when i personally missconfigured some bit
10:21<Poenikatu>I've just installed gnome and the long list has gone away. Only hyphen-en-us has gone. No big deal. I'm happy with eo dictionaries.
10:21<dpkg>experimental is the bleeding edge of Debian Development. Packages here have been deemed unfit/DANGEROUS/untrustworthy/etc for release by the maintainer responsible for them. DO NOT INSTALL PACKAGES FROM EXPERIMENTAL WITHOUT KNOWING EXACTLY WHY AND WHAT YOU ARE DOING. #debian does _not_ support experimental. 11:14<sml>babilen: I'm not sure the exact story. All I know is he had an mdadm setup and /boot was on /dev/md3. I did a typical rescue (boot from usb, remount + chroot etc) and managed to get all LVMs mounted correctly. but trying to mount /dev/md3 just wouldn't work. kept saying invalid argument which I guess means it couldn't identify the filesytem but could detect the partition. It *should've* been ext2 according to fstab.
11:15<sml>If i can at least restore /boot by reinstalling the kernel pacakges (or otherwise) his day might get better :)

14:40<SynrG>ixi: the downside of dpkg-divert --local is you won't get the maintainer's enhancements to that file. but since the file is pretty lean anyway ...
14:41<SynrG>it's unlikely to receive any (or any significant) changes in future versions. so it's pretty low risk to divert locally.
14:41<SynrG>use this method generally *with extreme caution*

14:45<SynrG>ixi: basically you're telling dpkg "please don't install this file when i upgrade this package; my version is better". normally you only want that for conf files
14:45<ompaul>Jester01: remove your postgresql you can add them back in if they work but if glibc goes up you may want to build it again
14:45<SynrG>ixi: there are cases where a naive admin might use that to do truly horrible things, as you can well imagine. i don't think this is a very risky case.
14:46<Jester01>yeah I suppose I can work around it, I was wondering if that's an apt bug or not

14:47<SynrG>ixi: dpkg-divert --local --divert /usr/share/icons/Adwaita/cursor.theme --rename /usr/share/icons/Adwait/cursor.theme.orig
14:47<Jester01>in the paste it clearly says it wants to remove postgresql-common because logrotate breaks it

14:47<Jester01>any hint about that?
14:47<ompaul>Jester01: no upgrades are from debian version X to debian version Y not some subversion that you build yourself
14:48<ompaul>Jester01: I guess you have some logrotate built into pgsql

16:50<cpbills>StefCT: remove the cruft; get rid of the previous attempts to swap to make sure you are not swapping twice, which would leave you with capslock being capslock and escape being escape.
16:51<StefCT>and I added the setxkbmap line before . /etc/X11/Xsession
16:51<StefCT>yeah, maybe, but I would be surprised it that was the problem... because at first I had only one attempt which worked first and then stopped working

18:12<babilen>sabian2008: First and foremost: If you run testing or unstable you want support in #debian-next and it is not much of a problem pull packages from unstable into testing. A tesing/unstable mix is quite a common setup at this point in the release cycle. See "/msg dpkg tum" for information on how to configure that. :)
