01:52<themill>haylo: we actually find that lots of people *won't* ask their question until someone actually chimes in and says "yes, I'm an expert in dovecot". Given that 90% of the time you don't actually need to be an expert in $program to answer the questions and helpers don't want to be in a position where they have to answer the question because they've now said "yes, here I am", it's usually better that people just ask their questions of the channel.

03:42<babilen>Ignis: No, it looks as if you added unstable to your sources.list (in order to install e17?) which is a development release of Debian. You seem to have (partially?) upgraded to unstable now. The stable release is called "wheezy" -- Did you want to run the stable release and install the newest version of e17?
03:42<babilen>I also would strongly recommend to not use debian multimedia btw, but that is most likely unrelated to your current problem.
03:42<Ignis>I used the repos for the e17
03:42<babilen>Ignis: No?
03:43<Ignis>Ok, I will delete the multimedia repositories
03:43<babilen>Ignis: Well, you have "deb unstable main contrib non-free" in your sources.list which means that your system will install *all* packages from unstable by default.

03:48<babilen>Ignis: You have a couple of options now: 1. Run unstable and accept that you will have problems every now and then (read 2. Downgrade to testing by pinning testing to a priority >= 1001 and running apt-get dist-upgrade 3. Try a downgrade to wheezy by pinning that to a priority >= 1001 and running apt-get dist-upgrade 4. 07:41<peter1138>Yeah, since DPMS it's all been a bit pointless.
07:41<TobiX>Maybe it does work with xscreensaver, if it's just a "hack"
07:42<peter1138>... although I notice that older LCD screens do take a while for the backlight to get to full brightness.

07:43<SynrG>prem_: re xscreensaver, maybe. but i doubt if there is any gnome integration with that, so you would be entirely on your own to set it up, and don't expect "Lock Screen" from the gnome menu to do anything useful without some hackery involved.

07:49<SynrG>search it for "gnome-screensaver"
07:50<SynrG>he also links to and says his instructions are based on that.
07:50<peter1138>The joys of "making things simple" :)
07:50<SynrG>but in that article, this step is questionable:
07:50<SynrG> sudo ln -fs /usr/bin/xscreensaver-command /usr/bin/gnome-screensaver-command
07:50-!-jrtappers [] has quit [Quit: Leaving]
07:51<prem_>SynrG, let me check
07:52<SynrG>because you're replacing something in /usr/bin with your own custom stuff, this is a little bit naughty

07:55<prem_>well but gnome-core is only a meta package na
07:55<prem_>so i guess for testing i can go ahead
07:56<SynrG>"only" a metapackage, sure, but you would have to mark noauto every single dependency ...
07:56<SynrG>and then if-and-when gnome changes the metapackages, you don't get their improvements.
07:56<SynrG>one day, on some future upgrade, that will bite you in the ass, hard.
07:56<SynrG>hardly worth it, methinks.
07:57<bernat>why remove gnome-screensaver?
07:57<SynrG>grafting in xscreensaver as per those instructions requires it
07:58<SynrG>now, you could locally divert gnome-screensaver-command ...
07:58<ectospasm>GNOME3 got rid of gnome-screensaver, I thought...
07:58<SynrG>but such a modified gnome-screensaver package is then clearly not supported by debian ... if you experience problems with it, don't whine to us :)

20:46<Alkazar>have setup my first email server and can access with mail clients outside my network, but not from client within my network :/
20:48<Moz>Alkazar you have to change the port maybe, it's blocked by default by internet providers (spam)

20:51<devil>Moz: and you seem to have duplicate networking files
20:51<Alkazar>Moz: even if I try to use internal IP of the mail server in the email client, it still won't connect - but the ports must be open because I can send/recieve fine using external mail clients ( iphone on 3G etc )
