03:32<aristoteles>hi, i just did an upgrade and now i'm noticing an error message in my dmesg about loading platform microcode: [ 11.228370] platform microcode: firmware: agent aborted loading amd-ucode/microcode_amd.bin (not found?)
03:32-!-wardhan [~wardhan@] has quit [Ping timeout: 480 seconds]
03:33<aristoteles>i can't swear the message wasn't there before, and i'm not sure that anything is working wrong. but i also see some errors in syslog from fglrx. anyway, i wonder if you guys have advice.
03:33<bullgard4>aristoteles: I think advice is computer type specific.
03:34<aristoteles>apt-get says firware-linux-nonfree is up to date.
03:35<aristoteles>this is acer aspire one 722. i've played with both the available video drivers a while ago. right now i'm using the nonfree one, but it's long enough ago that i don't really remember the names of the relevant files and programs :(

03:42<gsimmons>aristoteles: Later Linux kernel versions try more actively to load microcode, which explains the warning.
03:43<babilen>aristoteles: Just install the microcode package (everyone should really), but I don't think that this is related to fglrx -- Please see but I always ever used the radeon driver (and made sure that I have firmware-linux-nonfree and libgl1-mesa-dri installed)
03:43<babilen>aristoteles: The message is not actually indicating a problem. You processor will still work even if it can't load the latest microcode and it might even have been able to load the latest microcode from firmware earlier.
03:44-!-WUKONS [kvirc@] has quit [Ping timeout: 480 seconds]
03:45<aristoteles>babilen, i see. in fact, i'm not experiencing any specific symptom that i can tie to that message. i guess i can worry about other things for now.

03:46<aristoteles>speaking of other things, here's one: i find that pastebinit gives a python error that configobj can't be found. but apt-get says python-configobj is up to date. maybe it has to do with a default python (mine seems to be 2.6.8. anyway, does that seem like an easy one to solve?
03:47<babilen>aristoteles: Having the latest microcode won't hurt and I would recommend to install it, but then it sounds as if the *real* problem you ask about is graphic driver related. Please refer to the excellent wiki page to familiarise yourself with the installation of fglrx on Debian.
03:47-!-AlexLikeRock [~iobo@] has left #debian [software Libre No significa gratis]
03:49<babilen>aristoteles: Having read pastebinit's Python horror-code before I wouldn't be surprised if it is/was a lingering problem in there. Has that bug been reported? Is that on wheezy?

14:15<phillipsjk>I am not sure why you are saying suspend to RAM requires special memory requirements.
