00:13<dooglus>my function keys have stopped working. when I hit them now, they do things like turn the brightness up and down, as if I'm holding the Fn key. It happened yesterday too, and a reboot fixed it, but now it's happened again. is there a gentler way to fix it?

23:53<quackquack>not no matter what i am not changing my distro. debian! and it stays!
23:53*sney doesn't see any point in downgrading anything when using testing, but whatever
23:53<quackquack>and certainly not ubuntu.

23:54<j4jackj>I should make a Debian derivate a la Ubuntu but with a 1 year major release cycle and a 1 month minor release cycle, called 'Eltaff Linux+GNU'
23:54<quackquack>aah it worked.
23:54<sandy>so the moral of the story is: don't install sid packages?
23:54<j4jackj>Let's take the deriv talk to -offtopic, eh?
23:54<j4jackj>!sid
23:54<dpkg>i heard sid is the codename for <unstable>, named after the kid in Toy Story that breaks toys. The great thing about running sid is that, when it breaks you get to keep ALL the pieces!!

23:57<chealer>sandy: the more is you almost never want to install a sid package on an otherwise stable system. testing mixes well with unstable. stable, not so much

23:58<sney>sandy: if you're on stable and you want something from sid, better to get it from backports, or if it's not available there backport it yourself
23:58<sney>(/msg dpkg ssb for the latter)
23:59<sandy>perfect. thanks so much!
