07:48<Stummi>I think they go into the same direction as many "mainstream"-projects: They remove things which could overstrain an new user
07:48<Stummi>since their target is mainly to be useable and easy to learn for users coming from windows
07:49<birch>But the interface was very user friendly, I don't think even new users would have a problem with it

09:12<f8l>dirk: I'm not an expert here, but I think programs need to support multitouch. I think Evince is one such program. You could test if it works with it.
09:12<babilen>dirk: Yes, that is easy and is documented in synaptics(4) -- Create a /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/25-synaptics.conf like http://paste.debian.net/27489/ and adjust the options to your liking. If you use a desktop environment there are, naturally, other ways to do this. Please also note that testing/unstable is supported in #debian-next on this network.

11:16<babilen>lebernie: Use the netinst installer with firmware and simply write it directly to your USB. Don't use unetbootin as it is broken and let us know if you run into problems.

17:01<digitsm>What's the norm?
17:03<sney>it really depends on the system. if it's a multi-user machine and you want only your user to have the extra paths, then you'd set it in ~/.profile. Otherwise, you'd edit /etc/profile, likely comment out the conditional stuff that looks for the root uid and only have it set the first one

18:10<facerip>yes you can do the swap

18:13<jellybean>Hello, I'm installing a mail server on debian following a guide. A step require to enter the command " openssl genrsa -des3 -rand /etc/hosts -out smtpd.key 1024" which ask me for a passphrase for smtpd.key, is this a password I have to make up now or something I should already know?
18:13<pmart>ekiwok: i think LUKS is the standard way but i don't have any experience with it
18:13<facerip>http://www.cyberciti.biz/hardware/howto-linux-hard-disk-encryption-with-luks-cryptsetup-command/ has some options if you scroll down
18:14<pmart>http://www.happyassassin.net/2008/08/06/open-letter-to-the-developers-of-truecrypt/ :)
18:15<ekiwok>I don't know at this moment how, but I'd like to make prompt for gnome3 showing up when I'm turning on
18:15<facerip>loop-aes works well remotely, ive used it. as it states on the page it requires no kernel changes, just compiles a kernel module
18:16<stderr>jellybean: It's the password for your new key. Personally I would probably leave it empty, so I don't have to enter it when the services starts.

18:18<ekiwok>and here is my another question, it'd be cool to have my pc auto login while I'm turning it on, but still requiring password while sudo or ssh connections, is it possible?

18:24<ekiwok>Brigo, some eployers request data encryptions
18:26<facerip>ekiwok, add /tmp to its own partition and encrypt /tmp and swap. might be best to encrypt the /home on a different partition too. its best to try to encrypt the whole file system though seeing as an attacker could gain entry to an unencrypted root partition and install software to brute force the encrypted files/partitions anyway
