01:39<themill>nonconvergent: for which debian release?
01:40<nonconvergent>Not seeing it.
01:40<themill>it's not in wheezy. What needs that library?
01:40<nonconvergent>This is some kind of hell, punishing me for wanting to build from source.
01:41-!-gudjon [] has quit [Remote host closed the connection]
01:41<themill>no, building from source will not require a particular version of libgmp
01:41<nonconvergent>ghc installing from a binary does, oddly enough.
01:43<themill>sounds a lot like "running a random binary" not "compiling from source"

01:46<nonconvergent>It's quixotic. I need ghc to build ghc. So I tried to just grab the binary.
01:47<themill>it's not like ghc isn't packaged for debian and it's not like bootstrapping compilers is unheard of
01:48<nonconvergent>Yeah, that's what I'm doing now.

05:16<DusXMT>It might be that the video drivers don't properly support your frame buffer. It can be disabled. Try booting linux with "nofb" (You go to Grub, edit the boot entry, and add nofb at the end of the line which begins with "linux")
05:17<paulio>If i boot i see command and in one moment it blink to black screen. I have laptop with Intel 945 GM.
05:18<DusXMT>Yes, that's a frame buffer issue. Try what I said, and see if it works

06:49<rpetre>hello, can someone point out what's the current policy for release version numbers? i see wheezy as both 7.0 and 7.1
06:50<weasel>wheezy is 7.*
06:50<weasel>or just 7.
06:50<rpetre>weasel: so it's a guarantee that jessie will be 8?
06:50<weasel>that'd be my guess.
06:50<Maulkin>rpetre: no guarantee, but highly likely
06:50<weasel>don't know if it has been decided yet.
06:50<weasel>maybe it'll be debian 2015
06:51<rpetre>the trouble is i'm writing some config mgmt policies and i'm trying to detect wheezy based on version numbers
06:51<Maulkin>I'd suggest using /etc/debian_version
06:51<rpetre>ok, so 7 is guaranteed to be wheezy
06:51<ixi>2015 is better than jessie

06:53<rpetre>weasel: cfengine defines classes (more like boolean variables), some of them are debian_7 and debian_7_1
06:53<rpetre>i want to be sure that debian_7 == wheezy

10:11<cae>Dentych: if that happened once, you probably don't see any interesting logs because /var/log has been read-only at that time
10:12<cae>you could use logging via network or the netconsole (I think that's the name, basically dmesg | netcat) but that only helps for future crashes

10:14<automate>Morning all. I'm having some trouble. I'm installing debian on a new server. Installation goes fine, but after a boot, server won't see ANY of the hard drive partitions. I suspect this is a UEFI thing, as the server does have a UEFI bios. seems to indicate that GRUB-EFI2 should work, but I'm not sure how. Does anyone have a link to a wikipage on how to install wheezy on a UEFI system?

22:37<themill>cogito: that's not true. The problem was that you didn't volunteer to look after Qt3.
22:38<cogito>themill: I wouldn't know how
22:38<kevix>if you have old software that will run in an older environemt, a chroot might work

22:39<kevix>free software has many options. one is to fix it yourself, the other is to pay someone to do ti.
22:40<cogito>kevix: I'm just looking for a good linux game and it seems the QT version of Nethack offers options the other versions don't, so i was dissapointed to not find it in the repositories for Wheezy
22:40<kevix>this does not mean that you would have the resources (time, money, ablity) to do it, just that you could with the 4 freedoms.

22:41<cogito>anyways, what about Regnum? Did i make a mistake in installing it? Can it be uninstalled?
22:41<kevix>but then you have to learn to make a chroot or some other thing.
