00:04<kichigai>I'M BAAAAA-AAAACK!
00:05<kichigai>For now, I'm taking SamB's advice and I've submitted a report on my NTFS issue. Now I've moved on to my MacBook.
00:05<kichigai>I'm putting Debian in the partition that Windows previously occupied (before I moved it to the machine that's causing me trouble) and I need to find a way to extract wifi firmware in OS X.
00:06-!-hanasaki [~ubuntu@] has quit [Quit: Leaving.]
00:06<sney>kichigai: why not use the installer that includes the firmware already
00:06<kichigai>sney, There is one? I thought that was proprietary data and Debian couldn't distribute it.
00:07<SamB>kichigai: debian chooses not to include it in main
00:07<sney>!firmware image
00:07<dpkg>Unofficial <netinst> images - containing non-free Debian <firmware> packages - for installing Debian 7 "Wheezy" are available from . See also <install guide>.
00:07<sney>it is "unofficial" - and will probably be moved to when that gets off the ground - but it's a real wheezy installer, otherwise unmodified
00:08<kichigai>Close enough for me.
00:08<kichigai>This ain't my first rodeo.

00:18<kichigai>SamB, it doesn't have *any* seeds.
00:19<kichigai>I guess I have to sit here for the next 15-25 minutes, drinking wine, while the ISO downloads.
00:19<SamB>I mean it doesn't make your torrent client revert to downloading the file from the HTTP mirrors?
00:19*SamB wonders if it's the fault of the client or the torrent
00:19<kichigai>I don't know if Transmission does that.

20:11<SamB>yeah but what's the 6 for?
20:11<Osiris_X>not sure why the mapping is to cdrom6 - do you have cdrom1 -5?
20:12<Osiris_X>is it a removable USB CD/DVD drive
20:12<themill>Osiris_X: your error is a DNS error. Broken resolver in resolv.conf? mirror listed in sources.list gone away?
20:12<SamB>hmm, pretty sure I've not had that many distinct optical drives connected ... I guess part of it is probably from kernel churn?

20:13<asdf1>Anyone up for helping me figure out why debian's not logging ssh?
20:14<asdf1>not got a /var/log/secure or /var/log/auth.log etc
20:14<asdf1>so I assume it's not that I've broken something, it's just never been logging
20:15<asdf1>got this in sshd_config:
20:15<asdf1>SyslogFacility AUTH
20:15<asdf1>LogLevel VERBOSE
20:15<Osiris_X>themill: apt-get update does not exhibit the same behaviour - it appears that all sources are reachable
20:17<Osiris_X>themill: so I guess it one particular package trying download something, but it is not clear which one :(
20:17<asdf1>any clues?
20:17<themill>Osiris_X: can you pastebin the entire apt run?
20:19<Osiris_X>themill: I can get that from /var/log/apt/term.log presumably for historical runs
20:21<asdf1>got it, ignore me
20:21<SamB>okay, so I emptied that file out and renamed the symlinks manually
20:21<SamB>hopefully I will have nicer looking symlinks on my next boot

20:26<themill>Osiris_X: does "less -r" look better?

20:52<orak3l>let´s say my server has a set of open ports and everything else is set to drop. what i want to do now is when someone attempts to connect to a closed port the according ip address should be banned from accessing the server altogether. i´m using apf where it´s possible to ban ip addresses with "apf -d <ip>" but i haven´t found a way yet how to glue the two scenarios together. your help is very much appreciated
