09:45<eriberto>Hi all. A licensing doubt. A package arrived to Debian when in version 1.0. This package had a license file. In new versions, this file was removed and haven't any reference (heads) about license or copyright. The upstream site says that program is GPL. Can it be kept in Debian?

09:50<SynrG>because it is already in the archive, and it is clear that their *intent* is that it be GPL, it is probably best for all parties involved not to remove it from the debian archive, but to simply work it out with upstream. it's probably best if the debian maintainer(s) of the package take this up with upstream.
09:51<eriberto>SynrG: I am a maintainer (team).

12:07<n4mu>cybersphinx: sans doute, but I'm just trying to understand why (without polluting the bug report).
12:08<n4mu>I've noticed other bug reports for the same exact issue I'm having, and thinking it would be logical to keep things gathered in one bug report.
12:08<cybersphinx>Probably because it's easier to merge bugs when it turns out the problem is the same than to divide them apart later if it isn't.
12:09<n4mu>That said, I'm willing to open a new one, but if there's some kind of reason that is obvious to everyone... I wouldn't mind learning it.

Upon reading up further I discovered that preliminary support for the AMD64 microcode firmware

20:03<ro>Hello, I have a problem trying to install Debian. I turn on my laptop, boot CD and all I get is an endless black screen with a promp that doesn't accept input
20:03<ro>any suggestions?
20:04<Nemoder>can you switch to another terminal with ctrl-alt-f2 ?
20:04<ro>nope
20:05<Nemoder>does it show grub or any startup screens before the black screen?
20:06<ro>no, just the BIOS screen and nothing else
20:06<retrospectacus>maybe a bad download or burn
20:06<phillipsjk>I don't suppose this laptop is old enough to have a serial port? (RS-232)
20:06<ro>no, it doesn't

20:07<ro>do I need to download the .iso again? it's the full installer, not netinst
20:07<ro>(hold on a sec, let me check the md5sum)
20:07<ro>thanks
20:07<retrospectacus>ro: you will if it it's bad, yeah
20:08<retrospectacus>or get the firmware-netinst one
20:08<phillipsjk>Or use bittorrent tell your client to verify local data.
20:08<retrospectacus>phillipsjk: good call
20:08<phillipsjk>Then you only have to re-download corrupt peices.
