00:47<bullgard4>I bought a Windows 7 Professional computer having having only one partition. I shrinked Windows 7 Professional maximally using a Windows 7 Professional tool. I used a "7.0 wheezy multi arch install DVD" to create a second partition (ext4) and installed Wheezy. '~$ sudo fdisk -l' tells me: "Partition 2 does not start on physical sector boundary." Do I have to worry?
00:47<sney>only if it actually has a problem booting
00:48<sney>fdisk can be a little pedantic about that. and it tends to show up anyway on solid state disks too sometimes
00:48<bullgard4>sney: It boots flawlessly.

08:14<natalie>a need a little help witch chat. I mean... chat that is embedded in www.wp.pl . I've heard I can use chat from websites on IRC :/
08:14<natalie>dunno how to explain that more precisely :/

08:16<maxy>infinity0: You can add the corresponding symlinks to /etc/init.d and have your local initscript in /usr/local/etc/init.d, I don't see why you want that, but you can.
08:16<gry>natalie, embedded webchat? and what is your native language (if not English)?
08:17<infinity0>my point is, init ought to run stuff in /usr/local/etc/init.d/* automatically like BSD's init does
08:17<natalie>yy... :/
08:17<natalie>thanks
08:17<infinity0>that would be the correct behaviour. analogous to having /usr/local/bin on your PATH
08:18<infinity0>well, BSD uses /usr/local/etc/rc.d but same thing
08:18<infinity0>http://www.freebsd.org/doc/en/articles/linux-users/startup.html
08:18<gry>natalie, embedded webchat for irc? what irc network, this one or another one?

08:20<infinity0>right, i will file a bug and maybe use symlinks in the meantime

08:23<infinity0>maxy: your implicit point that "in BSD everything gets installed to /usr/local" doesn't negate my other points, and in BSD site-local stuff not under their packaging system still gets installed to /usr/local. but in Debian it's separated so the separation should be consistent
08:23<Xylon>how come when I install package `wbritish-small' it creates file `/etc/dictionaries-common/words', but when I uninstall with `apt-get remove --purge wbritish-small' it's still there
08:23<Xylon>?

11:18<prahal>hi been a few weeks that console-setup hang on aptitude upgrade via ssh : I investigated a bit (the bug seems to be bug 678897) "# setupconf -f" from ssh , hangs on "write(1, "\33%G", 3^C <unfinished ...>" to the tty device

11:20<prahal>gee when one ask, one find a way out : " tty2 0:00 /bin/login -- " I killed the login process on tty2 and now via ssh , setupcon succedd
11:21<prahal>so I bet when one has ctrl+alt+f<n> , the <n> tty is handled by login , which breaks setupcon

15:06<babilen>maxy: "the program im trying to run is called peerguardian btw" - I took that to refer to http://sourceforge.net/projects/peerguardian/
15:07<babilen>maxy: Either way, torguy left long ago and there is little we can do to help now :)
15:07<tweek>uhm, a year ago everybody was telling me how reckless it was that i tried to make the routine check skip-able, and now it's no longer necessary at all?
15:08<Ryccardo>well, on Windows (which doesn't do them periodically) I never had a problem
15:08<Ryccardo>also, if you feel the need to, just create an empty file /forcefsck and reboot :)
15:10<tweek>well, i have no idea myself, so i tried to rely on the defaults, and they just radically changed, hence my question. i have no specific reason to believe it's compromised, just trying to make sure it isn't a bug or misconfiguration of sorts
15:10-!-lOOza [~lOOza@114.65-201-80.adsl-dyn.isp.belgacom.be] has quit [Quit: Ex-Chat]
15:12<Ryccardo>well, first on a journaled filesystem it's just less likely to be required, and I suppose it has to do with the average joe not being interested in a progress par that ends with FILE SYSTEM WAS MODIFIED REBOOT LINUX
15:14-!-DarkAceZ [~BillyMays@50.107.55.36] has joined #debian
15:14<tweek>Ryccardo: i understand, i myself was quite pissed that, before the change, skipping the routine (!) check resulted in the filesystem not being mounted for safety reasons, and on my system, the check took about 15 minutes.

20:02<rodrigo>Hello, I have edited my fstab file to recognise two other partitions on startup but I cannot mount them graphically, when I'm on the file manager and click them I get errors, probably because of not being root. Should I start XFCE with sudo startx or what should I do?

20:05<babilen>torguy: good luck, I have no idea what you did. In order to be able to help you you should at least remember how you fucked up your system. I mean I can't just guess. Check your ~/.bash_history or similar files if you can't recall it. *maybe* reinstalling xserver-xorg-core is all you need, but I have no idea of which file you changed the permissions and why you would have done that.
20:05<cae>rodrigo: while the file system got mounted (by root), the output of the "mount" command will show the file system
20:05<rodrigo>yes, 'rw,user,noauto' are the options

23:30<HoChile>I havent solved that problem before so what I'm about to tell you is just a guess
23:30<HoChile>but tweaking the driver isnt what you want to do
23:30<SamB>topcyde: you want to hack the kernel, huh?
23:30<sney>synclient will probably be involved somehow
23:30<HoChile>you want to find the program or service that controls that hardware
23:30<HoChile>and then force it to re-initialize
23:31<HoChile>does this happen just on lid closing or does your computer suspend/hibernate too?
23:31<topcyde>I never have it suspend so I don't know.
23:32<HoChile>if it happens on sleep you can add a bash script to /etc/pm/sleep.d/ to execute whatever commands you want upon awakening
23:33<HoChile>you also need to look at gnome or whatever your desktop is to figure out what its doing when you close the lid
23:33<topcyde>it does it on suspend as well. just tried it.
23:33<HoChile>find the command to reintialize your touchpad then
23:33<HoChile>try looking at the documentation for xset?
23:34<HoChile>or xinput
23:36<HoChile>sorry I cant be of more help
23:37<HoChile>hope that sends you in the right direction
23:37<HoChile>you can also google for similar stuff happening on ubuntu and mint
23:37<HoChile>sometimes you'll find a nugget
