00:02<themill>chealer: I have already done so with you several times. In fact, we had this exact same "anyone" discussion 18 months ago for almost identical reasons.

00:02<SamB>themill: how did you keep track of how long ago it was?
00:02-!-factoreal [~factoreal@] has quit [Quit: factoreal]
00:03<themill>SamB: considering most of my interactions with chealer tend to be of this form, a simple grep of the irc client's logs is enough to find them

00:12<chealer>themill: right, so please keep letting me know right away (I do not really remember that discussion, but I guess I didn't change my mind since then, and might be one on which we'll keep disagreeing on for some time).
00:13<chealer>s/and might/and that question might/
00:13-!-Sigma-Virus [] has joined #debian
00:14<Sigma-Virus>Can I ask for help here?
00:15<SamB>FWIW, the point of !anyone is indeed for when people ask "anyone know about <VAGUE TOPIC>?" or "anyone around?", not when they actually mention a symptom in the same message ...
00:15<SamB>Sigma-Virus: yes
00:15<SamB>that is rather the point of this channel
00:15<chealer>themill: regarding vortek, the quality of his English has nothing to do with my response. I simply expect people coming to ask an actual question (unless what they expect from us is clear anyway).
00:16<Sigma-Virus>I have a problem , I was installing a software and Debian suddenly stop to work so I rebooted it, and now I can't install that software anymore
00:16<themill>chealer: no. Think about what you're saying here. Can you *really* tell me you couldn't work out what vortek wanted from what he said?

00:19<chealer>themill: I can really tell you that. I was wondering if vortek would ask 1) How to check the Adobe Flash version. or 2) How to upgrade Adobe Flash.

03:21<Infiltrator>pabs: Do you mean à la diff, but ignoring certain lines which match a pattern?
03:22<Infiltrator>pabs: If so, you're probably best off just hacking up a quick script to copy the files to a temporary directory, strip out the lines you wish, and then run diff.
03:22<pabs>no, diff only compares two/three, I have thousands
03:23<themill>something like fdupes but with the ability to not calculate expensive checksums on files you want to ignore
03:24<Infiltrator>Actually, that's a good point: rather than diff, generate hashes and compare those.

03:30<pabs>right now I'm manually filtering with sed
03:31<pabs>it is basically a bunch of cron mail from a bunch of servers and I want to find the patterns

03:46<Depa>because I compiled 3.11.4 but I got a lot of problems

03:49<seeS>it will, hasnt happened yet. the trigger will be pidof moving which will be in the next release

03:50-!-mode/#debian [+l 603] by debhelper
03:50<themill>I was just thinking that a change in priority could change whether procps was installed by default or not within the build chroot. Changes in debootstrap or even local admins throwing in "standard" tools into the chroots could lead to differences in what is installed within the chroot.
03:51<themill>It might just be that you're lucky enough to have /bin/kill on other archs because other things in the (build)-essential set have dragged it in
03:51<themill>Can you use your recently compiled kill instead of the system kill at the end of those tests?

08:17<caracal>here's what i've tried: free radeon driver segfaults when i do Xorg --configure
08:18<caracal>without any xorg.conf, "No screens found"
08:18<Sark>What kind of video card are you using?
08:18<Sark>Have you tried using the VESA driver?
08:18<caracal>radeon 6670
08:19<Sark>And it's supposed to be supported by the free radeon driver?
08:19<caracal>and no, i haven't sunk quite that far yet
08:19<caracal>yes, it's not a real new card
08:19<caracal>been using fglrx, but jessie removed it
08:19<Sark>I know I ran into a card a couple years ago that just wouldn't work worth a damn with anything. There's a reason ATI products are always the cheapest...

08:21<caracal>Sark: this card has run successfully with both the free radeon driver and the binary blob from amd
08:21<Sark>So what changed between when it did work, and when it doesn't?
08:21<caracal>it's just switching (forced by packange flummery) is kicking my ass
08:21<caracal>what changed is that jessie removed fglrx
08:22<caracal>i'm sure it'll be back in a few days, but i can't wait that long :)

08:22<caracal>been hammering at it for almost a full day now, no joy
08:23<babilen>caracal: First and foremost: You want to ask in #debian-next for jessie/sid support. You also *do not* need a /etc/X11/xorg.conf as that has been deprecated in ages. It is quite normal for packages to be removed from testing and AFAICT fglrx is currently uninstallable in both testing and unstable due to the new Xorg ABI.

08:23<Sark>I guess I'm a bit out of the loop - wasn't aware of a new release. I thought the current was wheezy
08:24<babilen>caracal: So please, lets continue this in #debian-next as it is a very testing specific problem.
08:24<caracal>babilen: okay, i'll try the other channel, thanks
08:24<babilen>Sark: It is, caracal is simply tracking a development release of Debian. (testing not stable)
