00:46<T-Rog>so the Debian 7.0.0 live iso seems to support any resolution in virtualbox, but I seem to be stuck in 1024x768 if I install the latest Jessie in virtualbox. Does 7.0.0 live come with guest additions installed, or is that not my problem?

02:26<woody>is a firewall a good idea when running a wheezy standalone workstation ?
02:29<jm_>usually it is

02:35<woody>my thinking is to block all ports except the ones i need on a day to day basis. port 80, 443, 1194vpn. I have no idea if that is a good start or the right thing to do??
02:36<jm_>you mean you want to block all destination ports too?
02:36<woody>destination ports should be the same, should they not??

02:41<woody>the ports open should only be open if a request is made by the my workstation which is requesting the service, ie port 80/http?
02:42<woody>I assume because I have no knowledge or experience to back my 'ass'ertions.

02:43<jm_>make sure to enable logging of such requests that get blocked or you'll be scratching your head why it no longer works
02:43<woody>ok, thats a sensible idea

04:25<ompaul>(not openvpn but routing question) I have an openvpn with network 192.168.1.0/24 on one side of it, gw is 192.168.1.17 (historical reasons don't you just love them ;-). On the other end (of the 10.9.0 network) I have 192.168.3.0/24 192.168.3.2 is the gw. these networks have no issue talking to each other. however behind 192.168.3.2 there is 192.168.20.2 and its /24. I can't renumber the machines on the 20. segment, using route add or something else
