01:21<James_T>ugh, why is wget so out of date... wany server name indication support :(
01:22<SamB>James_T: hmm?
01:22<jordanm>most of the time if you want to do anything more than a simple file download, curl is a better choice
01:22<James_T>SNI support is in wget 1.14
01:22<jordanm>,versions wget
01:22<judd>Package: wget on i386 -- squeeze: 1.12-2.1; wheezy: 1.13.4-3; jessie: 1.14-4; sid: 1.14-4
01:22<James_T>jordanm: true... let's see if curl has sni support :D
01:22<James_T>yeah, 1.14 should be put in stable, really
01:23<James_T>ok, works with curl

15:42<ratdeptrai>vjacob: I don't know if you tried your partition-resize yet, but gparted doesn't handle encrypted (LUKS) partitions, at least the last time I tried it. It can be done manually however.

15:48<ratdeptrai>Anyhow, boot to 'live' like was suggested, then you'll need to do expand the physical partition, then use cryptsetup luksOpen to open the LUKS device, cryptsetup resize, pvresize, then lvresize and resize2fs (or I prefer to just use lvresize with the --resizefs option).
15:49-!-monolith_ [~monolith@] has joined #debian
15:49<ratdeptrai>Once the initial partition is enlarged (which can be tricky), almost all of these commands will automatically resize to expand into any free space in the containing device/partition/volume, so you don't need to tell them the new size. But the whole thing is tricky and you can destroy your data very easily if you don't know what you're doing.

15:51<ratdeptrai>You can alternatively create a new LUKS device and a new physical volume, then add that to the volume group, but I'm still curious why you have such a small root filesystem to begin with.

16:10<ratdeptrai>Wamphyri: on the server use netstat to see which ports its listening on, then sniff them with tshark or tcpdump while you connect from the client. Also check your iptables just to be sure that "firewall" is disabled. If you see packets in tshark, work forwards from there to find the problem; don't see any packets, run tshark on the client to see if they're going out. Yes, you have problem on the network between client

17:44<evoke>hey guys, just testing debian jessie. when i installed tomcat 7 i was not able to install gradle because that depended on tomcat6 which could not be installed because tomcat 7 was already installed
17:44<evoke>same happened when installed gradle
17:44<retrospectacus>evoke: what's your question
17:45<evoke>these inter dependencies seem not to work
17:45<evoke>when install gradle could not eclipse
17:46<evoke>because one of eclipse depended on an older version of a library that gradle already installed, for example jetty
17:46<evoke>was newer with gradle than then with eclipse
17:47<retrospectacus>that kind of shenanigans is to be expected in jessie, that's why it's "testing" not stable... anyways go to #debian-next and /msg dpkg bat
17:47<evoke>how are we suppose to deal with these dependencies since we only have one of them on the system
17:48<SamB>evoke: well, you poke around looking at the transition tracker, and you also check versions in sid to see if one of those will help you out ...

20:39<jepler>So I was running the debian testing installer for amd64 and it has a "zfs" option. but it can't successfully create a zfs pool, and there seem to be no zfs or zpool executables. Is the option just there to tease me?

20:40<Infiltrator>jepler: Probably; but considering that it's Debian testing, you should probably ask in #debian-next.

21:20<Raptor>Hello! I'm having a bit of trouble installing dwm on debian. I currently dont have a graphical interface installed.
21:20<Raptor>If anyone could point me in the right direction that would be great.
21:21<berarma>Raptor: you should first detail your problem
21:21<berarma>does "apt-get install dwm" work?

21:22<Raptor>Yes, I have been reading a tutorial I found online but I'm not sure how to get it started. Sorry for the noobish questions.
21:22<Raptor>I have it installed I believe I just don't know how to get it started.
21:23<berarma>dwm is just a window manager, you need to start the xserver manually and then dwm

21:23<berarma>to make things easier you better install some desktop manager

21:24<Infiltrator>Raptor: No; the gnome-gods forbid you.
21:24<mzx89>has anyone used compat-wireless? or can someone just help me with compiling something in general. i'm new to it
21:24<berarma>you can install whatever you want but you should know it first
21:25<berarma>it seems you only know what you don't want
21:26<berarma>Raptor: it would easier for you to install some desktop task, it includes all that is needed to have a desktop working
21:26<Raptor>Ok, what do you mean by desktop task berarma?
21:27<berarma>do you use aptitude?
21:27<berarma>it has a task category
21:27<Raptor>apt-get which I assume is similar if not the samething
21:29<abrotman>not the same thing
21:29<berarma>ok, try "apt-cache search task desktop environment"
21:30<berarma>it will display a rough list of desktop environments you can install
21:30<abrotman>Raptor: which DE or WM do you want?
21:30<Raptor>abrotman: dwm
21:30<abrotman>Raptor: apt-get install dwm xorg xdm
21:31<Raptor>alright, I will do that. Then once its installed how do I go about starting it up?
21:31<abrotman>it will start at boot time if your video card is supported
