01:15<dpkg>Before asking in here or on the <debian-user> mailing list, you should read the Installation Guide, or if you already have Debian installed, the Debian Reference. The Debian Administrator's Handbook is also good. Ask me about <ig>, <overview>, <reference>, <refcard>, <docs>, <manuals>, <fundamentals>, <newbiedoc>, <faq>, <unix lessons>, <general cli tutorial>, <debian-handbook> (e.g. in your IRC client, type /msg dpkg reference).
01:15<jm_>see you in two weeks!

11:08<dalit>SynrG : ChibaPet : [Throttle 400 / 500 KB] , i cant understand whats this 400/500 ratio?
11:08<ChibaPet>I know! It's such an easy target for teasing, the poor thing.
11:08<stdspace>Anyway... What command are you using?
11:08<stdspace>dalit: Up and down-speed? (Or down and up...)
11:08<ChibaPet>dalit: That could mean a number of things. Is there documentation (a man page, a README) that comes with rtorrent?
11:09<SynrG>dalit: presumably you claim you have 500 KB bandwidth. the throttle is set to 400 KB/sec, or 80%
11:09<SynrG>dalit: if 500 KB/s isn't your *actual* bandwidth, use a bandwidth test (like the one i linked) to get the real number
11:09<ChibaPet>stdspace: I'm not, I was just struck by the !ask output, and sought to find humor in misinterpretation of the intent combined with an obviously clueless action causing fictional pain.
11:09<dalit>stdspace : SynrG : u both say something contradictory
11:10<ChibaPet>SynrG: Is it likely the torrent software has figured out his bandwidth cap? Maybe it has but I would be somewhat surprised. But then, I use btcurses and friends, so maybe it does.
11:10<stdspace>dalit: What I said was a guess, hence the "?" at the end.
11:10<SynrG>dalit: could be up / down. i don't know rtorrent.
11:11<dalit>oh , stdspace

11:11<SynrG>dalit: i was assuming these two numbers were both for down.
11:11<ChibaPet>dalit: You should see what documentation comes with the software - it'll almost certainly answer this. If it comes with no documentation, there are other packages that do that might serve you better.

11:11<SynrG>dalit: if it's up / down, then it's not a ratio at all :)
11:11<dalit>SynrG : i think u are right, i read something like that somewhere
11:12<dalit>but couldnt understand at that time
11:12<SynrG>dalit: anyway, as ChibaPet says, look it up in the doc. i'm a transmission user, not an rtorrent user, so ... not able to help much more than in a general way.
11:13<dalit>that was more than a help,anyway : SynrG : )
11:13<SynrG>500 KB/s looks like someone's default for "broadband"
11:13<SynrG>rather than a real number that reflects your actual bandwidth
11:13<dalit>ya i copy pasted it from web
11:14<SynrG>if you have cable, your numbers are probably highly assymetrical for up/down, not the small spread here between 400 and 500
11:14<SynrG>more like a 1:10 ratio

12:57<mju>!why not dmm
12:57<dpkg>The deb-multimedia.org repository was once the only way of getting good multimedia support. By the release of Debian 6.0 "Squeeze" this was mostly not true and for Debian 7 "Wheezy" this situation is even better. Libraries from dmm are known to cause incompatibilities with packages from Debian; packages may not meet the <DFSG> so are not allowed in Debian. Use dmm as a last resort; ask me about <dmm pinning> and <dmm remove>.
12:57<mju>^^ that seems to be opinion here.
12:58<terrible96>stderr, so what i should use instead that repo??
12:58<angel>I have not explained well, I am using linux and now I have to expand / with gparted only that / I do not expand, tells me that blocked

20:32<themill>william: we'd certainly encourage people to be using wheezy for their new installs -- oldstable only has 6 months of security support at this stage. If you were doing your hosting on some quite old rhel system and using something like openvz then you might have trouble supporting the wheezy userspace with the old kernel.

20:34<william>themill: I have both to offer. Thinking of dropping oldstable. I still offer RHEL 5 because I know of specific things that still only are certified on it. Wasn't sure if that might be the case with Debian as well.
20:35<themill>I mean rhel for the host system not as an alternate guest
20:35<themill>But if you have wheezy working, then that's not an issue. No, I don't know of any reason to stick with squeeze at this stage other than inertia.
20:35<william>Yeah, the latest distros work fine as guests. My host is Xen.
