00:11<gsimmons>Nikon: You're using the latest stable release (Debian 7 "Wheezy"). The packages available in wheezy-backports are produced (backported) from Debian's testing distribution ("Jessie").

00:17<gsimmons>Nikon: For your system, you would need to install the linux-image-amd64 and firmware-ralink packages from wheezy-backports. Once your /etc/apt/sources.list file is updated to include wheezy-backports, "apt-get -t wheezy-backports install linux-image-amd64 firmware-ralink" should install these packages, along with their dependencies.

00:21<gsimmons>Nikon: This relates to firmware patches used by the r8169 driver for your Ethernet controller. It likely isn't needed (and in most cases can operate fine without it), but you can install the firmware-linux-nonfree package from wheezy-backports if you want to silence these warnings.

00:26<gsimmons>Please ensure you've installed firmware-ralink from wheezy-backports (version 0.40~bpo70+1). You can verify this in your package manager, or by using the "dpkg -l firmware-ralink | tail -1" command.

00:29<gsimmons>Nikon: You probably need to amend your /etc/apt/sources.list file to include non-free sources. Something like "deb http://http.debian.net/debian/ wheezy-backports main contrib non-free" would be suitable. Be sure to also update your system's package list after your amendments ('apt-get update').

00:48<Nikon>So, got the problem of no login screen for 3.10
00:48<gsimmons>Nikon_m: From your previous pastes, you have the AMD proprietary driver (Catalyst, aka fglrx) installed, which blacklists the radeon open source driver. Consider booting back into the 3.2 kernel, purging the installed fglrx-* packages (and associated X configuration), then boot into the 3.10 kernel again.
00:48-!-shirish_ [~quassel@59.94.123.225] has quit [Read error: Connection reset by peer]
00:49<Nikon>none of them are installed on my package manager
00:50<gsimmons>Ugh, did you install this via AMD's installer?
00:50<Nikon>i take it thats a very very bad thing?
00:52<gsimmons>It generally causes issues with package management systems.
00:52<gsimmons>dpkg: remove fglrx
00:52<dpkg>Executing /usr/share/ati/amd-uninstall.sh (as root) may assist in the removal of the AMD Catalyst installer from amd.com.
00:52<gsimmons>That /might/ work in your case.

00:54-!-NomadJim_ [~NomadJim@75.106.196.215] has joined #debian
00:55<Nikon>is there a open amd driver?
00:55<gsimmons>Nikon: The open source radeon driver should provide support for your Radeon HD 7500M/7600M device in the 3.10 kernel. Its performance may be inferior to the proprietary driver however.
00:55-!-NomadJim [~NomadJim@75.106.196.215] has quit [Read error: Connection reset by peer]
00:55<Nikon>may i ask why its blacklisted?

00:58<gsimmons>The fglrx and radeon drivers support roughly the same graphics hardware, and conflict as a result. The open source radeon driver consists of a DRM module (supplied by the Linux kernel) and an xorg display driver (xserver-xorg-video-radeon package).
01:00<Nikon>so which one is the open source on in this case?

01:10<Nikon_m>This was asking for firmware itself
01:10<Nikon_m>Failed to load ati something or other.bin

To test an ISO image was burned correctly, compare the output of «md5sum filename.iso; dd if=/dev/cdrom | head -c `stat --format=%s filename.iso` | md5sum». You should compare this md5sum to the checksum for the ISO image on the mirror. See also <check iso signature>.

06:49<ahmed>can you look up the non-free ati driver wiki page
06:49<jm_>what about it?
06:49<ahmed>and see in the configuration section where this file is and how it's named
06:49<ahmed>I just copy pasted like an idiot
06:50<ahmed>and don't remember anything
06:50<ahmed>@_@
06:50<jm_>you want to know the URL? http://wiki.debian.org/ATIProprietary
06:50<ahmed>no, the location of the config file it made me make
06:51<ahmed>I'm a noob working in console/a headless chicken
06:51<jm_>never heard of links/lynx/w3m?
06:51<jm_>wiki command has /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-fglrx.conf
06:51<jm_>should be trivial to find with a few ls -ltr commands
06:51<ahmed>okay, thanks
06:52<gsimmons>ahmed: Why did you believe the legacy driver would work? It has no support for X700 (RV410) GPUs.

Here is the error log http://pastebin.kde.org/pixh0bp3z and the config file is this http://pastebin.kde.org/pzqskesof . Could somebody tell me what I'm doing wrong?

13:00<zykotick9>sajjadg: DON'T use the testing installer - install stable, then transition to testing
13:00<mtn>sajjadg: as you have been told in the other channel, the netinstall has just a basic os, no desktop, etc.
13:00<rueh>afterwards you need to manually install any other DE
