02:31<paco>Hello guys. It seems that every time I install an application through wine it becomes the default application for opening its associated mime types, overriding what is set at a system level. Can I prevent this behavior from happening? I'd like that instead, the default options would always be the system defaults, no matter what I install through wine (I'm using Debian 7.2 "Wheezy", wine 1.4.1 and a XFCE desktop)

02:46<dpkg>The Debian Reference will answer most of your questions about Debian. The latest version (v2) is at http://www.debian.org/doc/manuals/debian-reference/ . Read it after installing Debian and before asking for support, as it is the closest thing Debian has to a manual. You can install this too, the package name is debian-reference: «aptitude install debian-reference»

09:59<svenx>koyetsu: i have linux mint booting over nfs into the live desktop here
10:00<svenx>koyetsu: it basically boils down to these two lines in the pxelinux config:
10:00<svenx>kernel /data/linuxmint-15-cinnamon-dvd-64bit/casper/vmlinuz
10:00<koyetsu>really? can you give me your menu setup for that? you can paste in msg to me or pastebin it
10:01<svenx>append boot=casper netboot=nfs nfsroot=ip.of.nfs.server:/path/to/linuxmint-15-cinnamon-dvd-64bit initrd=linuxmint-15-cinnamon-dvd-64bit/casper/initrd.lz live-media-path=/casper quiet splash --
10:01<svenx>i've loop-mounted the dvd image(s)
10:01<svenx>same goes for ubuntu
10:02<svenx>um, you'll have to fix the paths a bit. depending on where you mount the dvds, and also based on what's your relative path served by the tftpd

14:16<nocturnal>has anyone else noticed that you can't build php 5.3 with both ldap and mysql support on debian? because it seems that libldap2-dev places libraries into /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu so to configure the build I need --with-libdir but then the mysql build fails, and vice versa. I tried LDFLAGS='-L/usr/lib before the configure script runs but it wouldn't help strangely enough.

14:18<Guest8071>sup guys i was trying to secure up my linux box and i was wondering if there is a way to deny remote root login and deny remote login to other users or just straight out deny all remote login to the system
14:18<weasel>you can tell ssh which users/groups to allow in sshd_config,
14:18<nocturnal>PermitRootLogin no in /etc/ssh/sshd_config and also you should look into AllowGroup
14:19<weasel>and you can configure pam_access (you might need to include it in your pam stack) if you want a second level
14:19<Guest8071>nocturnal i am trying to study up a bit on the whole securing and linux part so i dont know alot of what i can and cannot do as of yet

20:04<Julz2k>Hello, I tried to install a Starbound Server on my VPS. It worked only with the 32bit libraries. I had to upgrade the CPU Cores and Ram but now I'm at a ram cap and I have to use the 64bit libraries. But I get an error when I try to execute the .sh file.

20:08<Julz2k>I do have a 64 bit debian 7
20:09<Julz2k>the problem is the 32bit server executables are working but not the 64bit ones
20:09<ahmed>Multiarch?
20:09<petn-randall>Julz2k: How do you install it? If Debian 7 is supported, it should take care of the dependencies, or at least document them.
20:10<Julz2k>yes that's what I thought too
20:10<Julz2k>I have just unpacked the whole game directory including the 32bit server files and 64 bit server files. At the moment the game is in beta stage and just launched yesterday evening

20:11<Julz2k>I started the server with ./starbound_server
20:11<petn-randall>Julz2k: Does it come with a README or INSTALL file?
20:11<petn-randall>Julz2k: Check if the requirements are documented there.
20:11<Julz2k>no it does not come with anything :(
20:11<Julz2k>but I can check again
20:12<petn-randall>Julz2k: libvorbisfile.so.3 is in the package 'libvorbisfile3'.

20:12<petn-randall>Julz2k: You can install that, and when it complains about missing files, you can find the dependencies with 'apt-file search <missingfile>'

20:18<Julz2k>ok so it doesn't have any negative effects?
20:18<petn-randall>Julz2k: It merely is a thin buffer between on-screen in- and output.
20:18<Julz2k>oh ok that's a short and good answer

20:22<SamB>Julz2k: it would use *slightly* more cycles in terminal emulation. but screen's terminal emulator is probably one of the most efficient around ...
20:23<SamB>also if you background a window that'll mean *less* resources spent on terminal emulation, since only screen will have to do it as opposed to both screen and whatever you're running it under ...
20:24<petn-randall>SamB: It still has to capture all output ...
20:25<petn-randall>Julz2k: Anyways, worrying about screen slowing down performance is the same as shaving your eyebrows off to, due to less weight, get a higher mileage out of your car. ;)

21:52<paco>Hello guys, I know that wine icons are in ~/.local/share/icons, and if I remove that folder, they disappear from thunar. So the question is: where are the configuration mime files that point to ~/.local/share/icons, if they aren't in ~/.local/share/mime and ~/.local/share/applications (I already removed the files in those folders and the icons still show up in thunar) ????
