01:34<fcrs>tried to move my root filesystem to lvm/raid, kept /boot on the dos partiion. grub loads the kernel which then can't find /dev/vg0/lv0, although if i boot the same kernel/initrd using the old, normal root partition, it looks like it finds lv0 once init has taken over. this is probably a problem with my initrd right? it doesn't contain the needed info/modules for mdadm and lvm devices?

01:38<jm_>did you rebuild your initrd?
01:38<fcrs>i tried chrooting into the system, with the root FS on /dev/vg0/lv0, and forcing a rebuild of initrd by running "dpkg-reconfigure linux-image..."
01:39<fcrs>which i believe rebuild initrd, still didn't boot though, i kept getting dropped into grubs rescue mode, which i'm not the best at, so it's possible i didn't use the updated initrd
01:40<weasel>did it rebuild it?
01:40<jm_>you can simply check timestamp on the initrd - ls -lrt /boot
01:40<weasel>if not, there's update-initramfs

05:02<stderr_dk>bea: aliases are local to the shell and since X isn't the shell, an alias won't work... You would probably need a wrapper script instead.
05:05<stderr_dk>bea: /usr/local/bin is one of the first dirs in $PATH, so you could put the wrappers there. Just make sure you use the full path to the real "konsole" in the script. :-)
05:06<SynrG>not only a wrapper script but also a local desktop file that calls it

09:52<Elvano>Hey lot, I'm using Debian Wheezy both 32bit and 64 bit. I'm trying to get Skype to work with the integrated microphone on my logitec webcam. My 64bit system recognises my mcrophone, the 32bit system doesn't.
09:52<Elvano>Now the problem was that skype crashes on all my 64bit systems whenever I try to answer a call. To solve this I had installed the 32bit version of libpulse0. Skyp doesn't crash anymore, but the microphone also no longer gets detected.
09:52<Elvano>Does anyone have an idea how to fix this?

14:08<SamB>ahmed: I think there is a .desktop file that defines this "Gnome/OpenBox" option
14:08<valdyn>ahmed: i dont know how that gnome/openbox session is created in detail. However you can modify the gnome session by setting a window manager with gconf-editor
14:09<SamB>look at that one and the one for the other WM and you can probably figure out how to make your own hybrid

17:29<jthomas>willem you'll need to reboot at some point and may not get your graphiocal screen back, or maybe you will, but have another comp ready for troubleshooting if you don't know what your'e doing

17:30<ectospasm>duskye: if you insist on having the "latest" with respect to WineHQ (wine upstream provider), you'll probably need to download it straight from them. If you're lucky they'll have a .deb that will work. If not, you may need to install from source.
17:30<ectospasm>duskye: and then, don't come to #debian to ask why wine doesn't do what you want. Go to WineHQ

22:14<xperement>hi
22:14<xperement>i have a games package installed by default in debian wheezy
22:14<xperement>in gnome desktop environment
22:15<xperement>when i start `aptitude purge gnome-games` it wants to remove gnome package
22:15<xperement>how to remove them and save the gnome installation?
22:16<ectospasm>xperement: "gnome" is a meta-package
22:17-!-TheBonsai [~thebonsai@p54B599AE.dip0.t-ipconnect.de] has joined #debian
22:17<ectospasm>if you remove "gnome" it doesn't remove things like e.g. gnome-shell, nautilus, etc.
22:17<zykotick9>ectospasm: ahhh, with aptitude, i'd hope it would... and think it does.
22:18<xperement>ectospasm, thanks, it seems everything ok with removing games
22:18-!-piper [~piper@00012f3a.user.oftc.net] has joined #debian
22:19<zykotick9>xperement: after see if "apt-get autoremove" wants to remove the rest <don't do it obviously>
22:19<ectospasm>zykotick9: I have removed "gnome" and I still have nautilus. I think I also removed gnome-shell
22:19<ectospasm>...and I use aptitude almost exclusively
22:19<xperement>me too
22:19<zykotick9>me three :p
22:19<xperement>whats different in apt-get?
22:20<xperement>what for should i use apt-get usualy?
22:20<ectospasm>aptitude tends to be more aggressive in satisfying dependencies.
22:20-!-DennisTheTiger [~dennis@c-24-17-109-23.hsd1.wa.comcast.net] has joined #debian
22:20<xperement>is it good?
22:20<SamB>xperement: it doesn't go on removal sprees, for one
22:20<ectospasm>xperement: if aptitude is suggesting to remove a bunch of packages, apt-get will just usually hold up the offending packages.
22:21<ectospasm>SamB: which is why I learned the hard way not to use aptitude -y...
22:21<SamB>they should probably remove -y from aptitude ...
22:24<fcrs>usually, hitting 'n' a couple times will make aptitude find a solution that doesn't remove as much stuff
22:24<ectospasm>fcrs: sometimes you have the choice of removing 300 rather than 500 packages (-;
