06:09<veindrain>hey guys just a quick one. i got 3 2tb disks. gonna do /boot as raid 1 on all 3 disks, swap as raid1 and "/" as raid 5. at the end gonna select "load bootloader on the mbr" and manually add grub on the other 2 disks later. Is that legit?

10:09<wijnen>schichtleiter: Yes, but note that it's dangerous. It doesn't check everything. IIRC pvresize itself isn't a problem, but if you want to reduce your size, then you need to resize the partition after doing that, and it's very easy to make it smaller than the used size, thereby destroying your data.

15:32<exh>hi
15:32<exh>is there a way to use blank hostname?
15:33<ompaul>exh: no, you can give it a generic name perhaps replace-me and then when the box goes on a network it gets a new name?
15:34<ompaul>exh: some magic scripts needed but not too hard to effect
15:34<exh>ompaul, but i had blank hostname on lmde mint without a problem
15:34<exh>why can i have it on wheeze
15:34<exh>diferent kernel maybe?
15:35<ompaul>exh: no, and lmde isn't doing it right - you should have one something for localhost to bind to, what is it you really want with this?
15:35<ompaul>but then lmde is not debian
15:35<exh>no point
15:35<exh>i just want blank hostname

19:25<Nietzschette1>like, it's my terminal which needs to be adjusted
19:25<Nietzschette1>I've made my grub resolution bigger through your guidance, which in itself is cool

19:26<stderr_dk>Too bad you don't know if you removed vga=... completely to boot or if you left it at vga=some number.
19:27<Nietzschette1>well, there wasn't any value for vga initially
19:27<stderr_dk>No, I know it was vga=ask.
19:28<stderr_dk>But changing that to a number changed the resolution of grub?
19:28<Nietzschette1>yes
19:28<stderr_dk>Very odd...
19:29<stderr_dk>It shouldn't change anything in grub, only the resolution used _after_ you select to boot linux.

19:30<Nietzschette1>you've been very helpful already

23:28<teward>I submitted a bug to the BTS via email, but I used the wrong email address in the "Send from" field (since I have multiple email accounts I can send from)... is there any way to change what the "Reported by" address is so that it actually uses the correct email address?
23:28-!-Nietzschette [~Nietzsche@63-227-3-141.hlrn.qwest.net] has joined #debian
23:29<Nietzschette>new user here, could use help with ol' debbie . . .
23:31<chealer>teward: you can try http://www.debian.org/Bugs/server-control#submitter
23:32<teward>chealer, so, just email control AT bugs.debian.org, containing submitter BUGNUM new-email ?
23:32<teward>should i email from the address I originally submitted the bug on, or is that not necessary?
23:32<chealer>teward: indeed. unnecessary
23:33<teward>chealer, awesome, i'll try that and see what the system says
23:33<SamB>you merely need to avoid using any of the small number of banned addresses (assuming they're banned by email address)
23:34<teward>SamB, yeah, the only fault was the @domain part of the email address, since I have a couple domains, but I've used them in the past, I don't think the email addresses are banned)
23:34<teward>kinda easy to screw up when using certain clients that default-use a specific email address :/
23:35<SamB>yeah, if you were banned you'd probably know it
23:35-!-zenhacker [~zenhacker@cpe-98-155-253-78.hawaii.res.rr.com] has quit [Quit: Leaving]
23:35<teward>yeah it'd bounce the attempt back saying "Bad email address: [reason]"
23:35<teward>i've had that happen before
23:35<teward>:P
23:35<SamB>and I wasn't kidding about "small number"
23:35<teward>indeed.
23:36<teward>it also blocks based on the part before the @ too, i know admin@* will fail, made that mistake twice before
23:37<SamB>hmm, well, I meant addresses of actual people ;-)

23:37<teward>still.
23:38<SamB>I believe that there are some people who actually managed to get banned from control@bugs.debian.org
23:38<Nietzschette>does anyone know what file do I need to adjust my screen's resolution?

23:40<dizzylizzy>Nietzschette, that depends on where you are wanting this adjustment to take place; are you using a terminal/framebuffer, or are you using X? Are you using a specific desktop environment (gnome/xfce/kde/etc)
23:41<teward>SamB, heh, I don't doubt it, but I bet those emails are banned from the BTS completely, so...
23:41<teward>*shrugs*

23:44<Nietzschette>I searched online, but could only find ways of adjusting my grub's dimensions
23:45<Nietzschette>when I achieve terminal login is when the resolution jumps to something my monitor has problems with
23:45<Nietzschette>I can still read the terminal output . . . barely
23:45<SamB>Nietzschette: odd
23:46<SamB>Nietzschette: it really changes AFTER you type your username and password?
23:46<Nietzschette>no

23:59<Nietzschette>I don't need gui or anything for my current purposes
23:59<SamB>hmm, I don't know :-(

23:59<Nietzschette>I've tried editing /etc/default/grub and grub.h/00_header and . . .
