02:51<amireldor>Hello, I want some advise before I submit a bug or something. I installed wheezy a few days ago and it's related to the graphical installer:
02:52<amireldor>I let the installation run and went away. When I got back I had the GNOME lock screen. I didn't now the password. This could happen to anyone of course. What I did was reset the `user` password through a terminal.

02:53<amireldor>(the alt+ctrl+f#, how are they called anyway?)
02:54<amireldor>so, should I submit a bug? is the password (which i understood is simply "user") is written all over the installation docs that I didn't read?

03:16<chealer>amireldor: they're called virtual consoles. I don't believe the graphical installer is "a modified GNOME", but in any case, I don't see why the installer flavor would have a [intentional] effect on the result.

03:48<chealer>amireldor: officially Debian Live is an official subproject, but it's really buggy. I don't even bother reporting most bugs I find in it. the so-called "graphical installer" is a different thing. it's a mode in which you can run the "official" installation media

03:52<rudepeople>anyone know why I cany use my bluetooth headset anymore? it was good to go a few months ago, but now it doesn't work... I have two models (creative WP-300 and WP-350) and neither work... I get "Stream setup failed" in blueman, pulse shows no new audio sinks, and to top it off, google searching find several other people with the issue (some bug reports), but so far, nothing has worked...
03:53<amireldor>chealer, OK! thanks for the clarification.

Handy for downloading a Linux kernel, e.g. rsync -avz --partial rsync.kernel.org::pub/linux/kernel/v2.6/linux-2.6.29.3.tar.bz2 /usr/local/home/peej/src/ Useful for backups as per http://www.mikerubel.org/computers/rsync_snapshots/ , see also <rsnapshot>. http://rsync.samba.org/ #rsync on irc.freenode.net.

12:05<dpkg>You can install Debian from a USB stick/thumbdrive/pen drive/key on x86 systems, as long as your system's BIOS can boot from USB. Details are in the Installation Guide, see http://www.debian.org/releases/stable/amd64/ch04s03 and ask me about <install debian> for hybrid CD/DVD images. Use http://sf.net/projects/win32diskimager/ to write images from Windows. For BIOSes not capable of USB boot, ask me about <plop>.
12:06<sney>rickbol, basically, the iso you already downloaded is a hybrid image and you can write it directly to usb with no modification

15:27<herpy>SynrG, "Fatal Error: Steam needs to be online to update. Please confirm your internet connection and try again."
15:27<SynrG>that sounds like something else. do you use network-manager?
15:28<SynrG>if you use gnome but don't use network-manager, some apps may think that network-manager not reporting a connection means you have no connection at all, even if you've connected via ifupdown (i.e. /etc/network/interfaces)

15:35<SynrG>herpy: well, probably the right thing to do is "ifdown eth0" prior to commenting it out, then /etc/init.d/network-manager restart. logging out and in *may* be necessary, or may not ... or simply restarting nm-applet ...

15:46<SynrG>herpy, mtn: while the status shows as up, comments in the feed in the sidebar say people are having problems.
15:47<SynrG>herpy: might as well revert that change from /e/n/i to NM. it's generally more robust to have /e/n/i manage your eth0, unless certain apps erroneously report down network because of it
