03:52<jm_>!connection refused
03:52<dpkg>When a TCP connection (e.g. telnet somehost 80) gives the error "connection refused", it means that either the service in question is not running on the specified IP address at all (e.g. apache has died), or that a firewall has rejected your SYN packet and sent back a rejection packet to you. It's a VERY CLEAR, EXPLICIT error message and ALWAYS means one of those two things.

15:05<sney>-dev packages are headers, actual libs are contained in the non -dev package
15:06<sney>but, run 'apt-get autoremove' and look at the list of packages it proposes to remove. if there's something you want to keep, you can 'apt-get install' or 'aptitude unmarkauto' that package(s) to keep it from being removed automatically

15:19<roughnecks>!why aptitude
15:19<dpkg>aptitude has more advanced conflict/dependency resolution and will often find a solution where apt-get gives up. It can be used from the command line like apt-get plus an interactive resolver makes it much easier to recover from broken dependencies. It has advanced search capabilities (see <aptitude search>). For some upgrades, apt-get is preferred (e.g. <lenny->squeeze>, <squeeze->wheezy>).
15:20<roughnecks>don't know if the bot has other clues
15:21<musca>!why not aptitude
15:21<dpkg>Aptitude is more memory intensive and slower than <apt-get>, the <ncurses> interface is always loaded regardless of being used or not. Moreover the resolver can sometimes produce unexpected results and most of <aptitude>'s former exclusive features are now available in <apt-get> as well. Ask me about <why aptitude> and see
15:21<musca>it has :)

18:29<servidorv>this log files grow very quick

18:29<abrotman>they eventually should be deleted

18:30<petn-randall>servidorv: Can you paste the output of 'ls -al /var/log/' to

18:31<abrock>petn-randall: what will happen?
18:31<servidorv>i need something so that this files will only store 1 week log
18:32<servidorv>can that be done
18:32<petn-randall>abrock: When jessie gets released, 'testing' will point to jessie+1, and that is empty on the first day and gets slowly filled, with lots of breakage during library transitions.

18:36<petn-randall>servidorv: By deleting files you merely alleviated the symptoms.
