06:13<SynrG>i was going to say, that has its own issues (though with recent versions it should 'just work'
06:13<SynrG>)
06:13<SynrG>that == live
06:13<dzan>I see
06:13<SynrG>this is due to the separation of the kernel onto the live media filesystem from the live filesystem located in the squashfs.
06:14<SynrG>however, live-tools, which is installed on all official debian live images since wheezy is supposed to manage the initramfs rebuild with persistence correctly :)

18:15<Natureshadow>Taking the wheezy release as a measure, you could expect a release in May or June 2015

18:22<gazra>Natureshadow, OK, yes I was thinking on installing Jessie in one computer
18:22<Natureshadow>gazra: Debian ist a community project, so there is a lot you can do to help make jessie happen
18:22<gazra>Natureshadow, I'm running only wheezy for now
18:22<padski>I have an rtl8188eu device. I built the module and it works (for some value of works). I put it in /lib/module/blah... but it doesn't load automatically. I forget how the magic works :-(

18:28<gazra>Natureshadow, I would really like to help more, I find Debian stable very good. But now a just got a 3rd kid and that's why I'm sticking to stable. As soon as I have more free time, I'll install sid.
18:29<Natureshadow>gazra: I think that's about the most interesting reason for preferring stable over sid, but I get your point ;)

18:33<sney>8188eu support was added for linux 3.12 and up, iirc
18:33<sney>,kernels
18:33<judd>Available kernel versions are: experimental: 3.13-rc6-686-pae (3.13~rc6-1~exp1); sid: 3.12-1-686-pae (3.12.6-2); jessie: 3.12-1-686-pae (3.12.6-2); wheezy-backports: 3.11-0.bpo.2-686-pae (3.11.10-1~bpo70+1); wheezy: 3.2.0-4-686-pae (3.2.51-1); squeeze-backports: 3.2.0-0.bpo.4-686-pae (3.2.51-1~bpo60+1); squeeze: 2.6.32-5-686 (2.6.32-48squeeze4)
18:34<sney>maybe just the sid kernel would be a solution
18:34<sney>since kernels typically depend on very little, all you'd need is the kernel .deb and possibly linux-base
18:34<padski>I just built the module from 3.12. It works. sort of. keeps disassociating and associating.

21:42<MrFrood>!xorg manual config
21:42<dpkg>From Debian 5.0 "Lenny" onwards, you can often use an <empty xorg.conf>. To configure your keyboard layout for both X and console, run «dpkg-reconfigure keyboard-configuration». If you have further things you wish to configure, use "X -configure" ("X -configure :1" if server is already active) to produce a xorg.conf template. 23:33<fcrs>does apt-get and aptitude share the same local database for available packages, for example, if you typed "aptitude update" then ran "apt-get upgrade", would apt-get have access to the newly updated list of packages?

23:34<SamB>fcrs: yes
23:34<acald3ron>i just put a music cd and it wont mount.
23:35<SamB>you can't mount a pure music CD
23:35<acald3ron>yes.
23:35<fcrs>a music cd has no filesystem
23:35<acald3ron>so i cant not hear my music ?
23:35<SamB>well, there might be some exotic "filesystem" driver you could use, but that's exotic
23:36<SamB>you'd need a CD player program, or a ripper
23:36<SamB>(is your CD drive wired up to your sound card properly?)
23:37<acald3ron>ok i just run vlc and selec /dev/sr0 and its playing. So its not mounting in xfce !
23:38<acald3ron>automaticaly
23:38<fcrs>right, music and dvds don't need to be mounted for a players to use them
23:39<SamB>well, DVDs have a filesystem but probably players have to understand that ANYWAY because encryption?
23:39<acald3ron>Ok.
23:40<fcrs>i think so
23:40<SamB>(not that Debian has the decryption library, but that's really all that's missing as I understand it -- it's supposed to just drop in)
23:40<acald3ron>its there anyway that i cant automount cdroms like a USB ?
23:40-!-Malsasa [~Malsasa@114.79.62.209] has quit [Ping timeout: 480 seconds]
23:41<fcrs>i know KDE had(has?) a library that makes music CDs appear to be mounted so you can drag the files to another directory which causes them to be ripped
23:41<SamB>now, some music CDs actually do have a filesystem as well as audio tracks ...
23:41<SamB>but that's for some kind of "extras". or possibly a rootkit.
23:43<fcrs>those are mixed mode Cds
23:43<acald3ron>a now i undestand. thaks for the info.
