01:57<sesshomaru>Hello, I just manually installed Xorg as well as icewm and it fails to run, i execute "xinit -e icewm-session" and the monitor just goes to sleep.
01:58<me>can i mount my /tmp directory as a tmpfs ramdisk?
01:59<me>sesshomaru: try using the command "startx" instead
01:59<me>also did you install all off the icewm dependencies and recommends?
02:00<sesshomaru>me: same result and yes
02:00<me>sounds like an xorg.conf issue
02:00<sesshomaru>I also ran "Xorg -configure" for good measure
02:00<me>how did xorg -configure turn out?
02:01<sesshomaru>number of created screens doesn't match number of detected devices
02:01<sesshomaru>Its on an ATI Rage PRO Turbo PCI
02:02<me>what driver are you using?

02:09<me>that's just me though...
02:09<sesshomaru>yeah, I'm looking for as minimal as possible while still being functional, this is a 333MHz G3
02:09<me>i would try puppy linux then
02:10<sesshomaru>as far as I can tell there isn't a PPC blend of puppy.
02:10<me>ohh... too bad
02:10<me>i've had good luck with slacko puppy
02:11<sesshomaru>see this is running a PowerPC G3 333MHz, not an x86

02:11<sesshomaru>I guess I can stay in CLI
02:12<me>it might just be the video driver
02:12<sesshomaru>maybe I can't figure out what it would be though, it appears to have a bunch of ati drivers, including radeon and rage128
02:13<themill>sesshomaru: #debianppc or #debian-x might know more about what's wrong with your Xorg set up here (the WM is unlikely to be relevant to this)
02:14<sesshomaru>themill: I'd try there but on previous attemps, I could hear it echo in there, so last night i came here and got my network setup fixed
02:14<themill>there's only a handful of people using ppc stuff so if it's ppc specific, you're going to have to be very patient
02:15<sesshomaru>I might google around later when I'm on a system with a GUI, but there really is no help in #debian-ppc
02:17<themill>it's #debianppc not #debian-ppc btw. My last ppc machine was decommissioned almost a year ago, but they were always helpful in there as long as you waited long enough
02:18<sesshomaru>yeah, I guess I'll leave a tty up tonight
02:18<sesshomaru>I mean, I love these powerpc's nice CPUs but macs are a mess as far as hardware goes.

08:46<SynrG>!frankendebian
08:46<dpkg>When you get random packages from random repositories, mix multiple releases of Debian, or mix Debian and derived distributions, you have a mess. There's no way anyone can support this "distribution of Frankenstein" and #debian certainly doesn't want to even try. See if you can convince ##linux to help.

08:46<SynrG>iirc, i think that factoid refers to ##linux @ irc.freenode.net
08:48<SynrG>zeev_: that's worse than a derivative. it's a derivative with user population == 1
08:48<SynrG>zeev_: i.e. you're wholly on your own for support.

08:49<zeev_>ok...
08:53<ixi>zeev_ can you do ping 10.0.0.138
08:53<ixi>oh
08:53<ixi>not debian
08:53*ixi loses interest :/
08:54<zeev_>ixi: yes, I can ping .138 from .2 ... and it is debian, frankendebian as SynrG called it :)
08:55<ixi>zeev_ we don't support such things here
08:55<zeev_>that is the best debian you can get for this device
08:55<zeev_>I didn't find anything closer
08:56<zeev_>believe me I tried my best

08:58<ixi>zeev_ it is, but it only counts as debian if you 1) install it from official media released by debian project 2) use only supported repos or combinations of them
08:58<ixi>if you don't meet those criteria you are not running debian
08:58<ixi>and you are not supported in this irc
