00:00<dpkg>Compiz was a compositing window manager using OpenGL for rendering. Compiz hasn't been developed for some time and is no longer part of Debian (see bugs #719870 and #677864). Plenty of other window managers have the same features as compiz. For a list of available window managers, run «apt-cache showpkg x-window-manager». See also or #compiz on
00:03<Frank_Jameso>this saddens me for nostalgic reasons that shouldn't trouble most people, heh.

00:15<Radon_3>good morning everybody, I am getting this error that says something about something being wrong with the signature of some files when I run 'apt-get update' and then I am not able to update my debian system
00:15<Devastator>I'm guessing you need an updated debian-keyring
00:15<Radon_3>what could I do to solve this problem?
00:16-!-houms [] has quit [Quit: Konversation terminated!]
00:16<Radon_3>Devastator: how can I get that?

00:25<Frank_Jameso>if opinion based questions aren't ok please disregard, but does anyone have a favorite window manager or recommendation for someone that liked compiz?

00:30<Frank_Jameso>Radon_3: that's what I'm trying at the moment, but it's not quite there. I might stick with it if I have trouble with Awesome
00:30<Radon_3>I occasionally use the default debian gnome-classic too
00:30<SamB>Frank_Jameso: asking for a recommendation for something to use instead of compiz certainly doesn't sound off-topc

05:04<dpkg>To reinstall <GRUB> boot to your Debian install disk/live CD, switch to the other console (Alt-F2), then mount your root filesystem (mount -t ext2 /dev/whatever /target ; mount --bind /dev /target/dev ; mount -t proc none /target/proc ; mount -t sysfs none /target/sys), then chroot into it (chroot /target) and run "update-grub && grub-install /dev/whatever". 11:17<Ennea>hello~; i have a general question and wasn't sure where else to ask, so here i am. i just ran apt-get update and apt-get upgrade, and to make a long story short, nginx was updated as well, and that lead to my index.html in /usr/share/nginx/www being overwritten. not a big deal, but quite an annoyance, and i'm guessing similar things may happen with other packages as well. anything i can do to prevent that?

And after sinking several hours in there you might end up with a "half-assed" version of Icinga. :)

Please that we cannot see your screen, cannot input anything and can only use the data you give us.
14:23<sreyan32>petn-randall: There is a package "grub-efi-amd64" for squeeze as well. EFI booting is THEORETICALLY supported.

20:45<wapiflap1>hey guys, how can I (simply) tee stdin to all clients connecting to a socket ? I'dd like something like whatever | netcat -l localhost 4242 but accepting multiple clients at the same time that will receive the same thing.
20:45<wapiflap1>I looked at socat's man page as it seemed the most likely, but I dont see how it could do something like this :/
20:45<wapiflap1>If anyone has an idea of what would be the right tool for the job I'dd be grateful

20:50<kardan>wapiflap1, maybe a webserver?
20:52<wapiflap1>looking a oneliner actualy, and its important the data is not altered so no HTTP, (of course data broadcasted before a client connects is lost that is expected)
20:53<wapiflap1>I could code something quite easily instead of running a webserver, but I'm surprised there is no simple tool for this job...
