01:28<dodobirdie> luxznc2 : lol
01:28<SamB>luxznc2: so I shouldn't bother trying to install it on our G5 iMac?
01:28<luxznc2>no It may be possable. I was just out of luck
01:29<luxznc2>It was simple on the dual g4 quicksilver and also the g4 mac mini
01:29<luxznc2>also had luck with xserves dual g5
01:30<luxznc2>issues with the fans on the g5 imac I think
01:30<luxznc2>and the lampshade just froze up durring install
01:31<dodobirdie>from the looks of it windtunnel is for power pc based macs right ?
01:32<luxznc2>yeah I have an intel based imac (the white one) but never used anything but 10.4 on it

01:43<sney>xormor: in case SamB didn't tell you about it yet, 'http.debian.net' is a mirror service that automatically choses a mirror based on your location. so 'deb http://http.debian.net/debian wheezy main contrib non-free' will automatically give you those 3 sections from your closest/best mirror
01:44<sney>google sources.list generators tend to not know about it yet

01:45<sney>in the meantime, it seems to work pretty well most of the time, which is better than just guessing at a nearby mirror and hoping the bandwidth is okay and that it gets updated often enoguh
01:46<sney>the xchat package is in a weird place right now since it hasn't been updated since 2010. xchat-gnome might be on DVD-1 though. and I just ITP'ed hexchat, so that should be making its way into the archive before too long (fingers crossed that I don't hit any major hurdles)

In windows it says that the usb stick is empty and has free space of 3.9GB. i tried to put the usb-stick back to scratch by using both fdisk and dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/sdb but in

20:32<hjf>i installed KDE4. it's a little more responsive than gnome 3
20:33<hjf>but i think the worst offender is a program i need to use, MPLAB X. it's an IDE based on netbeans. it's silly slow (hitting enter to insert a new line of code takes about 1 second and it pegs the cpu at 100%)

23:06<colt>I have been encountering system crashes related to my USB disk acting as though it had been unplugged and plugged back in again. The disk is where I installed Debian to, thus the system crashes whenever this happens. I can see kernel buffer output to my screen, and I see lines indicating that the drive has picked up again (sd: sdc: assuming drive cache: write through and so forth). 23:17<me>on CLI when I type in "hwclock" I get the correct time... but when I type in "date" I get the wrong time... how do I fix this??

23:36<me>I got it : date --set='2014-02-07 23:34:56-05:00'

23:38<jordanm>kardan: just guessing here: openssl x509 -sha1 -in file.crt
23:38<me>uuughghg! It changed back to the wrong time...
23:38<jordanm>openssl x509 -fingerprint -sha1 -in file.crt
23:39<jordanm>me: try changing the hwclock instead of the system date
23:39<me>the hwclock is the correct time...
23:39<sney>me: don't crosspost, it's rude
23:39<colt>If his hwclock is right, I wouldn't mess it up.
23:41<sney>if hwclock is showing the local time, either a) set hwclock to UTC proper, and then date will show the local time, or b) set /etc/adjtime to LOCAL instead of UTC
23:41<sney>option B is better if you're dual booting with windows

23:43<kardan>thanks jordanm, it also prints the whole certificate, so I use: openssl x509 -sha1 -fingerprint -in $FILE | head -n1

23:45<flipjarg>Am I doing this wrong? I want to start `devilspie` and `rxvt` when I login. I should be adding that to /etc/X11/Xsession right?
23:46<jordanm>flipjarg: you should use your DEs method of autostarting programs
23:46<flipjarg>DE?
23:46<jordanm>flipjarg: or ~/.xinitrc if you use that to spawn your window manager

23:47<flipjarg>Gnome doesn't startup properly. I just get a cursor with the login background image.
23:48<flipjarg>...not my user defined background image.
23:48<flipjarg>I've even done `cat /etc/X11/Xsession > ~/.Xsession`
23:48<flipjarg>It still doesn't work.
23:48<flipjarg>!
23:49<flipjarg>I might have just figured it out. I don't think I made it executable.
23:50<flipjarg>One other thing I've been trying to find out @jordanm ... if I only add two lines to my ~/.Xsession will it run the normal Xsession and then mine. Or does it just try one or the other?
23:51<jordanm>I have never used ~/.Xsession, just ~/.xinitrc
23:51<jordanm>but i think xinitrc is only processed on "startx" though
