02:53<knives47z>rahuldroy, there is a way to do it but it requires unlinking stuff within the /etc/init.d directory I believe. Debian doesn't seem to have a quick way to do it, but from my understanding what you can do it install the package rcconf, and then you can use that to turn the start-on-boot settings for most scripts and programs
02:53<afsal>Sky-Roker: if you need you can check this also

06:33<babilen>Al3xG0: "ripping" ? But okay: Ask mozilla for help with *their* packages. #debian does only support Iceweasel and I really don't see the point of wanting Firefox given that Iceweasel is FF (modulo the branding) and available in all recent versions too.
06:33<ompaul>Al3xG0: as root, apt-get remove --purge iceweasel then you will be able to run the other - stick it in /user/local/bin/firefox and then you have to apply paths to it, good luck with that
06:34<sreyan32>I can't update apt because I can't connect to
06:34<babilen>Sky-Roker: Most IRC clients let you autocomplete nicknames. Try "bab<TAB>" and see if that works.

06:34<Sky-Roker>babilen: thanks
06:34<ompaul>Al3xG0: and then anything that doesn't work with firefox is your problem and not supported here as babilen pointed out ;-)
06:34<Sky-Roker>babilen: so, please, wait,
06:35<babilen>Sky-Roker: Sure take your time (i'm grabbing a coffee and will be back shortly)

22:55<chealer>mmavipc-debian: non-trivial, but I'd check for differences in the set of modules loaded before/after a relevant restart
22:56<Hatter>according to align-check optimal 1 in parted the partitions are aligned optimal.
22:57<mmavipc-debian>I have no idea how to do that

22:59<mmavipc-debian>doing cat Xorg.log.0 | grep module shows the same output as the same command on Xorg.0.log.old
22:59<mmavipc-debian>well, except for timestamps
22:59<chealer>mmavipc-debian: I meant kernel modules. you can list them with lsmod (and use Kompare to compare if you save output to 2 files)
23:00-!-Horgix [] has joined #debian
23:01<mmavipc-debian>alright. I just saved a copy now. I'm going to try letting it sit for 30 minutes and see if it magically starts working. Since the last time it started working it was mid-session
23:02<Horgix>Hi everyone ! Quick question about apt/dpkg : when I run dpk --get-selections, some packages are listed as "deinstall" but I can't find any way to remove them all at once with apt-get without specifying each name

23:02<chealer>you could also compare aplay -l
23:03<MMavipc>chealer: oh yeah, another thing I forgot to mention that may/maynot be relevant. When sound does work, it's very poppy/staticy
23:04<chealer>MMavipc: no idea. which Debian suite do you use?
23:04<Horgix>is there any way I could remove it properly and all unused dependencies ?
23:04<themill>Horgix: "apt-get dselect-upgrade" might do it -- do these packages need to be removed or purged?
23:04<Horgix>purged, it's mostly packages I don't need at all
23:05<themill>Horgix: apt automatically tracks unused dependencies and deals with that. You may need to alter its idea of what priority dependency is required to keep a package installed though (see aptitude's SuggestsImportant config option)
23:05<themill>Horgix: if you've got lots of stuff marked 'manually' installed then you may want a tool like debfoster or deborphan to brutally suggest things to remove
23:06<mmavipc-debian>chealer: aplay -L is listing 3 devices, HDMI 0, 1, and 2. The box has a HDMI out, HDMI in, and DisplayPort out. Think there could be something iffy there?
23:07<chealer>mmavipc-debian: aplay l uppercase or lowercase? the output would be clearer

23:07<MMavipc>lowercase shows 1
23:08<MMavipc>oh ops
23:08<Horgix>themill: no there's almost nothing I installed without apt-get. I removed some packages with apt-get --purge remove <pkgname> but it looks like dependencies weren't removed
23:08<MMavipc>lowercase also shows 3
23:08<Horgix>like conky and conky-cli for example

23:10<chealer>MMavipc: I've never seen that but ALSA is so mysterious I wouldn't say it's abnormal

23:13<Horgix>themill: thanks for the dpkg (bot I guess) explanation. I originally wanted to know about how to remove all the "deinstall" packages at once but I guess apt-get --dselect-upgrade will do the trick, gonna try that
23:13<mmavipc-debian>testing the one that's not grey causes nothing to happen
23:14<Horgix>themill: nvm, looks like it doesn't
