Also ask me about <radeon firmware>, <radeon audio>. http://wiki.debian.org/AtiHowTo http://x.org/wiki/radeon #radeon on irc.freenode.net. For the proprietary driver, see <fglrx>.

10:02<sreyan32>Stummi, I always sync Windows from a Windows time server.
10:02<petn-randall>sreyan32: Linux and Unix have the system clock of your mainboard on UTC, windows always uses local time.

10:02<sreyan32>Stummi, is that what you mean?

10:02<Stummi>sreyan32, no, its about how windows stores the time internal in your computers clock
10:03<sreyan32>can you please explain the problem ??

10:03<Stummi>there is a way to tell windows to store UTC instead of your local time, like linux. It was an hack in the windows registry but I don't know where

10:04<sreyan32>Stummi, what is going on ? Linux uses UTC what does that have to do with Windows ?
10:04<Stummi>sreyan32, there is one chip on your board, where the OS stores the time, and read it, when booting
10:04-!-jerrytgarcia [~jerrytgar@112.209.164.132] has quit [Ping timeout: 480 seconds]
10:05<sreyan32>Stummi, the OS saves time on the motherboard and not the hard disk ? Why ?
10:05-!-Goofy [~goofy@212.114.109.96] has joined #debian
10:05<Stummi>sreyan32, because the clock continues on, after your computer shuts down
10:05-!-wally86 [~wally86@host74.190-225-235.telecom.net.ar] has joined #debian
10:06<sreyan32>Stummi, so the clock keeps incrementing the value in the chip even when the machine is off right ?
10:06<petn-randall>sreyan32: Correct.
10:06<Stummi>yes
10:07<sreyan32>So basically the solution to this problem is to configure Windows to use UTC. Nothing can be done in Linux ?
10:07<Stummi>after booting, an OS reads the time, check if its correct via internet, and changes it if not
10:07-!-Netsplit charon.oftc.net <-> services.oftc.net quits: FloodServ
10:07<Stummi>I don't know if you can tell linux to store local time
10:07<abrotman>sreyan32: it's likely your BIOS clock is on one timezone, Windows may agree with that, and Linux is on a different one
10:07<Stummi>(using UTC is more sane, btw)
10:08<abrotman>sreyan32: clock fights so to speak ...
10:08<sreyan32>Stummi, i see. Why is UTC more "sane" ?
10:08<sreyan32>abrotman, i see
10:08<petn-randall>sreyan32: You can teach Linux to accept that the clock is your local time zone, but as soon as there daylight saving time, you'll run into problems. Both OSes will change your clock by an hour, ending up with the wrong offset.

See http://lwn.net/Articles/198171/ for the release notice. Use -pad for .wav files when burning audio. Use -swab if your CDR uses little endian or .cdr is in big endian -- basically if the audio on CD is static, use -swab.

12:35<katinux>SynrG, I looked at the head of "set" output (set | head -n 100) it looks like normal, bad the tail - hundreds of lines - looks like here: http://paste.debian.net/81199/
12:36<SynrG>yas: i don't like repeating myself, but: look up dpkg-scanpackages in http://packages.debian.org *or* use "apt-file search dpkg-scanpackages". both methods will find which package(s) contain that string.
