00:27<neo1691>Guys, I have nvidia GT 630 M graphics and I installed the proprietary drivers from official debian repo and also the appropriate linux headers. Now my graphics card has optimus. So I should skip the Xorg.conf creation and directly install bumblebee from backports. Right?

00:31<Nemoder>!bumblebee
00:31<dpkg>The Bumblebee project aims to provide support for the Nvidia Optimus GPU switching technology on Linux systems. GeForce 400M (4xxM) and later mobile GPU series are Optimus-enabled; if «lspci -nn | grep '\''[030[02]\]'» returns two lines, the laptop likely uses Optimus. Packaged for Debian in <testing> and <wheezy-backports>. http://wiki.debian.org/Bumblebee http://bumblebee-project.org/ #bumblebee on irc.freenode.net.

00:34<ashish>hello all I am unable to boot in headless mode with the raspberry pi. Can some one help
00:35<neo1691>Nemoder: Thanks! I created the Xorg.conf file and startx failed. Just installed bumblebee and rm -rf Xorg.conf
00:35<neo1691>I just want to know, who can I be sure that the proprietary drivers are being used for graphics?

06:32<nevyn>you're in luck. drivers for ati cards ship with debian.
06:32<nevyn>in main
06:32<nevyn>!ati
06:32<dpkg>To use an ATI/AMD graphics card with Debian, ask me about <radeon>, <fglrx>. Installing proprietary drivers from amd.com (i.e. with the AMD Catalyst installer) is not supported in #debian, please go to #ati on irc.freenode.net.
06:33<nevyn>ugh. that could be better worded.
06:33<nevyn>if you don't know that fglrx are the proprietary drivers it's more limiting than it should be.
06:34<nevyn>!tell gregorio about fglrx
06:34<nevyn>so there are two drivers for that card.
06:35<nevyn>the free software completely supported by the community ones.
06:35<nevyn>and the binary ones from amd that nobody but amd knows how they work.

12:22<zhouu>bernat: Well I didn't think it was the winehq package first, since the output of debian related programs gave me the error (wine32 has no installation candidate, and googling didnt gave wanted results)
12:22<MrFrood>zhouu: Debian has an option to install without a DE, no need to uninstall Gnome, just add xorg and openbox
12:22<sney>zhouu: the key term there is debian-based. Ubuntu is debian-based too and we don't support that either. when distro creators change stuff, it means the distro is no longer what #debian is able to support. #debian does not and never has (at least in this century) supported debian-BASED distributions.

23:11<dharc>how can i fix it
23:11<dharc>?
23:12<LtL>dharc: they are elements of certain other packages, coreutils etc.

23:14<dharc>no, coreutils also is "uninstall"
23:14<LtL>dharc: that would be interpreted as 'installed.'
23:16<dharc>they are installed, but not for synaptic :s

23:32<themill>You could probably get aptitude to reinstall the essential set and then other packages and eventually get there but you'd probably always wonder if there was something still wrong with the installation.
23:32<Gorgor>hey, i'm slowly going through this harden-debian doc and disabling some services etc - so i did update-rc.d -n rsync disable , and it displays what it would do - it says it would rename from S02 to K01, so that sounds ok, and i do it without -n and it renames it to K01 instead of what it said
23:33<Gorgor>S02 to K02, sorry

23:33<LtL>Gorgor: K is good, its disabled then
23:33<Gorgor>ok
23:33<Gorgor>i was just expecting it would do as it said in the -n output, and it was different
23:33<themill>note that rsyncd is probably already disabled in /etc/default/rsync anyway
