03:27<zeev>Hi, how can I 1) block all images/videos/flash/etc. from the web? 2) generate on the fly transparent image with the size of the blocked image and place it on its place, so the structure of the website remains the same 3) make exception for certain sites 4) lock it, so only the root can change all this? Thank you very much.

03:38<Rhonda>zeev: Depending on browsers, there are addons. And there is also privoxy which you can set up as local proxy and tell to block stuff in general.
03:39-!-que1 [~que12345@181.26.137.166] has joined #debian
03:39<Rhonda>Personally I enjoy the FlashBlock, ScriptSafe and DoNotTrackMe extensions in chromium.
03:39<zeev>Rhonda: it should be lockable by root and work for all browsers, so probably proxy is a good idea. can privoxy do all the four things?
03:40<Rhonda>Yes, would think so.

03:41<Rhonda>You could redirect all outgoing traffic through privoxy with iptables transparently, but that wouldn't help with websites running on different ports for whatever reasons.
03:42<Stummi>zeev, well, a user can setup the proxy in the most browsers
03:42<Stummi>zeev, sounds like you want to set up a kiosk system, maybe this is the term you should search for

06:52<jm_>perhaps check if it's easy to backport it yourself
06:52<lau>oh yes ok thanks
06:52<jm_>!ssb
06:52<dpkg>First, check for a backport on <debian-backports>. If unavailable: 1) Add a deb-src line for sid (not a deb line!); ask me about <deb-src sid> 2) enable debian-backports (see <bdo>) 3) aptitude update; aptitude install build-essential; aptitude build-dep packagename; apt-get -b source packagename; 4) install the resultant debs. To change compilation options, see <package recompile>; for versions newer than sid see <uupdate>.

08:35<jm_>so the enxt line would be empty (well ok let's ignroe the prompt)

09:27<Lekensteyn>ultimately the routes and addresses are added, but the post-up script is not ran and another service with a dependency on $network fails because the IPv6 address is not ready

16:11<babilen>Bublik2002: Yes, I am not supporting wicd but I was under the impression that it has some configuration menu in which you might have to choose/enter "wlan0" as wireless interface.
16:12<babilen>siFu22: Ask in #debian-next (cf. /topic) and provide detailed logs of the upgrade that changed that behaviour (e.g. /var/log/apt/history.log will do nicely)
16:13<babilen>Bublik2002: I would recommend to use either network-manager or to configure it manually by following one of the many ways detailed in /usr/share/doc/wpasupplicant/README.Debian* -- My experiences with wicd weren't very good and I completely gave up on it back in the day when all upstream developers abandoned it. It has been resurrected since, but I am just not bothering with it.

16:40<FeriKe>Hi, I'd like to know if pulseaudio is the only soundsystem available on debian?
16:40<babilen>Bublik2002: You still have entries for wlan0 in there. You will have to remove those (and those for eth0 too) .. so essentially just remove everything after (and including) line 8
16:40<Bublik2002>ok let me try that
16:40<babilen>FeriKe: No, it is not. you've already been told that alsa is an alternative and there are also OSS pacakges, but I have no idea in which state they are in.

16:54<babilen>Bublik2002: The reason for this is that modern Linux applications are quite dependendant on software that provides the proper security contexts. They want to know, for example, if a certain user is actually locally logged in and then grant certain permissions based on this information. "startx" in its standard configuration simply doesn't do this which is why "modern" software doesn't work now.

22:48<Osiris_X>in debian how is webmaster@localhost setup as an alias email address for root@localhost?
22:50<sney>in the exim config, surely

22:51<Osiris_X>sney - I do not see it there - or is it something I have to manually configure?
22:51<Osiris_X>I ask because webmaster@localhost is the default ServerAdmin address for apache2
22:51<sney>!exim4
22:51<dpkg>Exim 4 is the default <MTA> since Debian 3.1 "Sarge". The Debian package has a debconf-driven configuration which greatly eases configuration for most run-of-the-mill applications. E-Mail is a complicated matter, so it might be necessary to read a lot of documentation to allow more advanced features. exim4 is very powerful and flexible. Find more about Debian's exim4 on http://pkg-exim4.alioth.debian.org/
22:52<Osiris_X>ok

22:53*SamB grumbles that ddclient doesn't seem to recognize the "freedns" protocol despite it showing up in the -help output ...
22:54<sney>that sounds like a bug
22:54<sney>though, some dynamic dns providers have taken to specifically avoiding automated update clients
