06:34<alessandro>Maulkin: thanks! i'll see if i can find reviews online! :)
06:34<SynrG>if it were me, i would see if someone had written up a report on the specific make/model you are interested for the specific release you want to use it with (a blog or so)
06:34*Maulkin nods
06:35<Maulkin>I suspect they'll either just work, or not work at all
06:35<Maulkin>There probably won't be something that sort of works.

06:35<alessandro>one more question
06:35<alessandro>i know there were some kind of limitations when using a second monitor

06:35<alessandro>but i don't remember the details
06:36<Maulkin>eg: An open source driver is available, for DL-1x5 devices which is now built into the Linux kernel. Linux support for DL-3x00 or DL-41xx is not currently available.

14:52<ratdeptrai>centrx: no, this is 1990's-era; the CPU is PowerPC but that's not the issue: PowerPC macs with PCI are supported by several distros, but the older Nubus requires specific support that I think may have disappeared with kernel 2.4, but I've found vague reports of 2.6 working.
14:54<ratdeptrai>E.g. https://www.debian.org/ports/powerpc/ states that "Debian... does not support NuBus"

14:56<centrx>ratdeptrai, I guess you must have visited that, because that mentions the 2.4 kernel
14:57<ratdeptrai>centrx: Actually that was an exact quote, and yes I've tried that place, it's last "news" was from 2006, its IRC server doesn't work, etc.
14:57<bruwnie>centrx: sysctl?
14:58<ratdeptrai>But I might try to find whatever images I can find there and see what can be done. But the problem is that I really need a live CD since I have no disk onto which to install.
14:58<ratdeptrai>So a Woody-based PowerPC live CD _might_ work, if I could get a working bootable floppy.
14:58<centrx>bruwnie, I assume so. There might be a script that runs from /etc/init.d that reads sysctl.conf and runs sysctl to set those values (or should)
14:59<ratdeptrai>So maybe I should have just asked, "does anyone know of a Woody-based PowerPC live CD?"
