00:22<stelicho>what are you trying to install? did you try sudo apt-get -f install?
00:23<kanga>I have not
00:23<kanga>I want to install bitcoinqt
00:24<kanga>it is dependent on liboost filesystem
00:24<kanga>which is dependent upon libc6 2.14
00:25<stelicho>what does it break?
00:25<themill>Don't go mixing packages for different releases
00:26<kanga>libc6-686-i386
00:26<kanga>which release have I mixed?
00:27<kanga>or packages, rather
00:27<themill>sid and not-sid by the sounds of it
00:27<themill>(I don't know, you tell me what you've done)
00:28<kanga>haha, please pardon my ignorance. I'm new to UNIX like systems in general
00:28<kanga>I will try to retrace my steps

00:33<centrx>kanga, Oh, "sid and not-sid", that's just a hyphen
00:34<centrx>kanga, bitcoin-qt is only in sid/unstable. You are probably on version wheezy/stable.
00:34<kanga>I see
00:34<centrx>kanga, If you mix the two, you will end up with an unstable, semi-broken system.
00:35<kanga>Understood, yes I am using wheezy/stable
00:35<centrx>kanga, You may be able to do a source-backport of bitcoin-qt to wheezy.
00:36<centrx>kanga, You could also upgrade to testing/unstable, but this is not recommended for new users.
00:36<kanga>Thank-you, could you recommend to me documentation on using a backport from source

05:17<Deathspike>Hello. I am attempting to install Debian 7.4 XFCE Live on a notebook. Since it does not have a CD/DVD player, I made a bootable USB stick. As I am on Windows, I tried win32diskimager, LinuxLive USB Creator, unetbootin and Universal-USB-Installer. Each attempted installation it will tell me it needs to load components from a CD-ROM. What is wrong, and how can I continue?

05:22<babilen>Deathspike: win32diskimager should have worked and many people have used that before .. unetbootin is known to break our installers. No idea about the other two.
05:22<babilen>Deathspike: Mind trying a different image? I'd recommend the netinstall one with firmware if you hardware requires that and if you have a working internet connection
05:22<babilen>dpkg: tell Deathspike -about firmware image
05:22<babilen>dpkg: tell Deathspike -about install xfce
05:22<babilen>dpkg: tell Deathspike -about usb install
05:23<babilen>Deathspike: And I am not too sure about the live images. They should work, but I would recommend to use the actual installer images rather than the live one (in particular if you have problems)
05:24<Deathspike>babilen: I tried debian-7.4.0-amd64-netinst, but haven't tried that in combination with win32diskimager yet. I will give that a shot.
05:25<babilen>Might be the winning combination. ;)
05:26<babilen>Just out of curiosity: What did you write that image with?
05:26<Deathspike>babilen: One I had seen recommended on <insert random blog here>: Universal-USB
05:31<babilen>Deathspike: The images simply have to be written directly to the USB without making changes. Software (like win32diskimager) that ensures that should work. There might still be a problem with your particular stick or other things, but it is a problem that frequently comes up in here with unetbootin

12:57<rhgvuden>Brigo: Can you tell me how the panel would hide in full screen, or the name of mplayer compatible with xfce?
12:58<weasel>mplayer is a package and a piece of software.
12:58<weasel>it's not a class of programs.
12:58<wheeler>weasel: I'm going to do it this way: copy data from /home and /var to other disk, then run ubuntu live or gparted distribution (live), remove existing partitions and create LVM in this place. Next, I will copy data to new LVM partitions and change mount points in /etc/fstab of my Debian.
12:58<weasel>wheeler: sounds like a plan.
12:59<rhgvuden>weasel, mplayer2 from debian repo does not create a media player entry in the menus tho?
13:00<weasel>rhgvuden: possible. not really relevant to my point though :)
13:00<Brigo>rhgvuden, no. Mplayer and mplayer2 are commnaline programs. If you like graphic versions install smplayer or gmplayer

14:58<centrx>mask, It is probably some random server added to sources.list, not a real Debian mirror?
14:58<mask>nope, its from ftp.nl.debian.org
14:59<mask>the one i mentioned last time, im still getting the same error
14:59<mask>i guess ill just have to change the mirror then
15:01<centrx>mask, But why is it showing as an IP?
15:01<mask>centrx, i wish i knew

15:05<centrx>mask, why do you have so many lines in there?
15:05<centrx>mask, What does your sources.list look like?
15:06<babilen>mask: Mind pasting your sources.list too?
15:06<mask>centrx, im not sure why there are so many lines in there, i have always had that many when i ran an update

15:10<mask>babilen, ok, the CD entry has been there since install, what is it?
15:10<babilen>mask: I mean change ftp://ftp.nl.debian.org/debian/ to http://ftp.nl.debian.org/debian/
15:10<babilen>mask: It is the CD you installed from. You clearly don't need it if you have internet access.

15:12<centrx>mask, If you don't use sources, you can remove/comment out the deb-src lines
15:13<mask>babilen, give me a second to make those changes
