02:43<rryoumaa>virtualbox has version in security that is below version in backports. which should i use?
02:44<rryoumaa>(the guys in #virtualbox are saying the wheezy version is old; i am experiencing bugs with it)
02:45<themill>It wouldn't be uncommon for security to have a lower version than backports -- that's almost a requirement, really. (the guys in #virtualbox only care about the last tarball oracle threw over the wall)

02:46<rryoumaa>themill: is the version in backports insecure?
02:46<themill>You'd have to look at the CVE to work that out. Things in backports are normally updated in response to security issues.
02:47<themill>What makes you think that it is?

08:27<pasacal>Hello. As of recent I'm having real troubles connecting through ssh to my debian machine from outside the network. It used to work, so something probably went wrong recently. If I connect through ssh from inside the network, it works perfectly. From the outside, it doesn't. I have a dns, on my router I forwarded connections on port 22 to my LAN IP of the machine. On the machine I set up ddclient accordingly to the dns.
08:27<pasacal>The only thing that I changed recently (that I am aware of) is that I added a firewall. I thought that could be it, so I added temporily a rule for the current IP given by my dns, but still the connection gets refused.

08:47<rfree>abrotman: not sure what you mean. I'm looking for low-medium segment general printer+scaner
08:47<abrotman>You don't know what inkjet means?>
08:48<rfree>abrotman: yeah, priner of inkjet type. It seems a common choice for general printing

08:50<rfree>that is what is usually used, for home / small office - if you want collor, right?
08:50<abrotman>rfree: http://hplipopensource.com/hplip-web/supported_devices/deskjet_aio.html
08:50*abrotman would never buy an inkjet for "light printing"
08:51<rfree>I think when we find a good printer, that is actually available in shops etc, it would cool to describe it on debian wiki, so users know what is a good option
08:51<abrotman>...
08:51<abrotman>themill: I agree with your assessment
08:51<nocturnal>postscript printers work
08:51<nocturnal>in general
08:51<abrotman>Argh! Logic!
08:51<nocturnal>when you buy a printer always ask if it supports postscript
08:52<abrotman>nocturnal: he's looking for a shitty all-in-one inkjet
08:52<rfree>yeap. Same as most small offices and homes
08:52<abrotman>You're doing it wrong ..
08:53<abrotman>inkjets dry up, take forever, require more maintenance.
08:53<blast007>inkjet is for people who don't know any better

08:54<themill>rfree: when buying hardware, do you normally go through the museum of every piece of hardware in that class trying to find if it's still on sale, or do you start by finding out what's available and then working out what of that matches the price/specs you want?
