15:02<daveinlv>Am on Wheezy and for some reason, the system boots up to a command line vs a gui login. I can login on the command line and run "startx" and the gui starts.. what am I looking for that somehow got changed???
15:03-!-awal [~awal@216.165.200.131] has joined #debian
15:04<Nemoder>daveinlv: for which desktop environment? default is gdm I believe
15:05<Walex>daveinlv: what you got is the best situation I believe... But if you want a graphical login look at '/etc/X11/default-display-manager'
15:05<daveinlv>ummm.. not sure which one is default.. I have kde, gnome3 and mate on the system.. I'll check what's listed in /etc/X11/default-display-manager
15:05<Walex>daveinlv: if you don't get a GUI login probably you got "none" or a non-existent path there.
15:06<daveinlv>sez /usr/bin/gdm3
15:06<daveinlv>Startx brings me up to gnome3
15:06<Walex>daveinlv: then there is something broken with that.
15:06<Walex>daveinlv: 'startx' will use 'gnome-session' not 'gdm3'.
15:08<daveinlv>walex: since apparently wheezy comes defaulted with xfce, I only installed gnome3 the other day.. I often switch between mate,kde,gnome3..
15:08<Walex>daveinlv: every GUI login ("desktop manager") usually can start a session of any time, giving a menu from which you choose.
15:08<daveinlv>walex: I didn't find a gdm3 running in ps.. so startx uses gnome-session instead
15:09<Walex>daveinlv: since 'gdm3' is in that file, a GUI login should have started. So there is something broken.
15:10<Walex>daveinlv: a hopefully remote possiblity is that you are not in the GUI runlevel.

15:12<daveinlv>err make that lvl3 for commandline

16:39<stummi>was passiert da?
16:39<foreverska>I GUESS if you saw traffic from a phone you could throw packets at the open port. Enough of them might slow real packets.
