00:08<DennisTheTiger>Hi! On Wheezy, I notice that, when I come back in from a hibernate, grub can't seem to figure out where the hibernated image is (theoretically, on swap - /dev/sdc3 in my case). How do I fix this?

01:37<twb>The first paragraph is *boot time*, you ignore it.
01:38<twb>You've got 70% idle which is bad -- you would expect more like 80+% when not doing anything. But it's not terrible.
01:38<twb>The fact taht it's only doing 1MB/s writes for 300 transactions means it must be doing lots of very small transactions.
01:39<yiwan_>yes,small files
01:39<twb>For a RAID0, you would expect md0's tps to be equal to the sum of sda's and sdb's tps -- but it's more. So that's suspicious and weird.

01:48<yiwan_>thanks
01:48<twb>I can see sda has negotiated udma6 (highest) which is good.
01:48<twb>You will get some write amplification because the md stripes (4kB) are substantially smaller than the SSD's write-erase blocks (probably 128kB or so) -- and may not be aligned.

01:49<twb>Yeah. Ty T'so wrote a good article about it years ago, for ext4 on SSD
01:50<yiwan_>128k?so large?
01:50<twb>It's an SSD. That's how they work.
01:50<twb>There is an FTL chip that makes them look like hard disks.
01:50<twb>The quality of the FTL is a large contributor to how good/sucky the SSD is.
01:50<twb>http://thunk.org/tytso/blog/2009/02/20/aligning-filesystems-to-an-ssds-erase-block-size/ I think

05:36<planetmaker>dzan, it's no problem to create your own packages. You can sign them, yes. But you don't need to
05:37<SynrG>as long as *you* say your apt source is trusted, apt will take your word for it
05:37<jm_>dzan: that signature is only valid if it's taken from that repositoryu, your own repository can have its own key or not have it signed at all

08:46<jm_>what makes you think it's bad?
08:46<cookta2012>it is "testing"
08:47<cookta2012>in my vocab testing generally means there are issues
08:48<jm_>you must live in some black and white world, anyway, the state of testing changes with time, and with each installation, depending on which packages someone needs etc.

19:27<Truckman>Hi. My system doesn't automatically mount USB drivers, I tried to mount them manually and I can't either. When I try to get the devices name by using "dmesg | grep -i "dmesg | grep -i "SCSI device"", I get no output, I know for a fact that the system detects the driver since I can clearly see its logs in dmesg. What might I be doing wrong?
