02:39<DrZaius>im reading the ca-cert debate on devel... and i wonder... is there a sane way to pin a domain to a certain ca?
02:40<weasel>no.
02:40<weasel>not in the x509 model.
02:40<DrZaius>and in practice?
02:40<weasel>chrome and firefox have support for that, but it's in the source code.
02:40<weasel>so you have to mail google/mozilla and ask them to add your domain
02:40<DrZaius>oh...
02:41<DrZaius>well, i would had to have my ca added first then
02:41<DrZaius>i was just thinking about my own domains tho
02:41<weasel>A way forward is RFC6698, but client side support for that in browsers is not appearing quickly.
02:42<weasel>for mail it's more realistic. postfix has support for it already.
02:42<DrZaius>right now, when i add my own ca to the browser... i dont even check the certs offered anymore...

03:32<somiaj>this sometimes works and you have a nice .deb you can use, this sometimes requires a lot of work (including backporting dependencies). I woudln't know as I don't use emacs.

03:46<mestia>somiaj: yes, I just found it out too, and also iputils-ping has 34 bugs in BTS and inteutils 0 :), but that can be a sign that one is developed actively and second not

07:59<SynrG>how can this be? does it not respect that conf.d is applied first?

15:17<nocturnal>how do I read the sensors output? lm-sensors. mine looks like this http://sprunge.us/VfaM and I think the core temps are often too high. for example if I start a stress test they immediately shoot up to 100 and ten slowly go down when the stress ends. also recently core temps said around 70 so I rebooted into bios and it said 54C

16:33<diederik>Hi! I want to automate the setup of my debian system (actually raspbian) and I thought that preseeding debconf would allow me to do that.
16:34<diederik>I'm following the guide here: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/8671308/non-interactive-method-for-dpkg-reconfigure (2nd answer), but for the life of me I can't get it to work.

16:35<diederik>So my question is: Is using debconf preseeding the appropriate/best way and are the steps described in that guide correct?
16:36<diederik>If I do "dpkg-reconfigure tzdata" interactively, it works without a problem

19:28<awal>Hi! I was surfing in distrowatch and found that almost 80% of gnu/linux distributions are Debian based and every day people try to develop more distros. debian has the largest amount of free software and almost all SD and WM are in their repositories. Why, then, these developers have created dozens of Debian based distros and are trying to create even more distros? Why they not just join Debian and participate in its improvement?

19:49<somiaj>awal: Each group has its reasons. Some want to include non-free software and make it more automatic for it's users. Others want newer versions of software. Usually it is to do with not agreeing with some core debian policy and wanting to do things their own way.
19:51<somiaj>awal: from more experience most are usually debian testing with many packages removed and some quality control to get newer software.

23:13<FoxyTheFox>ubuntu is fine, it installs an updated driver
23:13<FoxyTheFox>but not debian
23:14<FoxyTheFox>and i definatly prefer debian over ubuntu
23:14<centrx>FoxyTheFox, You either want the free radeon driver, or the non-free fglrx-driver driver.
23:14<FoxyTheFox>watsa the non free one advantages?
23:14<FoxyTheFox>this isnt for gaming but i want use of the hdmi output
23:14<centrx>!fglrx
23:14<dpkg>fglrx / AMD Catalyst is the proprietary display driver for AMD/ATI Radeon HD and FirePro graphic processing units. As of fglrx-driver 1:12-6~beta-1, R600 and R700 based GPUs (Radeon HD 2000/3000/4000 series) are no longer supported; ask me about <fglrx legacy> or use the <radeon> driver for device support. To install fglrx, see http://wiki.debian.org/ATIProprietary or ask me about <fglrx dkms>.
23:15<centrx>So the non-free one is the driver from the manufacturer. It has more advanced feature support and probably faster 3D performance.

23:25<FoxyTheFox>hmm
23:25<FoxyTheFox>already installed
23:26<LawlisJ>I have a question
23:27<somiaj>FoxyTheFox: the radeon driver should be detected by default, you can check /var/log/Xorg.0.log to see if it loaded. To get decent 3D support you need to also install some non-free firmware to go with the driver (it isn't required by helps with 3d support) in the package linux-firmware-nonfree
23:28<Smokestacks>using this laptop primarily as a learning environment. Debian/Linux, Java (on my own), eventually want to help developers (of Debian and other programs) with bug reports/QA because I have a ton of free time ha

23:30<somiaj>RuPeRterer: again if you only have alsa installed and set the default card and device to your hdmi like I explained to you before it should work. Works for me. If you use pulseaudio, that gui utility should work. Works for many others I'm assuming.
