03:21<themill>pabs: if you have sources.list lines for both binary and source packages then apt-get source will obey -t.
03:21<themill>if you don't, then it's either pkg=version or debsnap
03:23<pabs>hmm, the issue appears to be specific to one particular package. works for iotop but not openchange
03:23<pabs>uhhh, it works for openchangeclient (binary package name)

03:24<themill>so -t is specific to binary packages and it's then using that to decide what release to look at to do the binary->source mapping
03:25<themill>∃ a bug about this somewhere

11:09<Brigo>mmm, 2 thinks you can do ifaik: fix the coolers (if any and if they are not spinnig) and reduce the warm produced by the cpu and gpu.
11:10<Brigo>lmsensors can show you the temperature of the harwdware.
11:10<Brigo>Nikon i think will be better to paste the pci id of your card
11:11<Nikon>So, lets put it this way, the fans work, they spin, but they don't adjust to eliminate heat, thus my PC overheats

13:09<petn-randall>wkf: Then that's the problem. Don't forget to set it back ;)
13:09<somiaj>Liquid: sudo is kinda a layer, and should require a password that would stop scripts from doing things they shouldnt
13:09<jimpop>unless it's a live CD.....
13:10<jimpop>which then downloads a BIOS hack.....
13:10<somiaj>Liquid: but if someone can use your browsing or online tools to run a script with 'sudo whatever' in it, and you don't ask for a password yes they can do thigns with root permissions on your machine.
13:10<Liquid>So it would be fine for me to use my sudo account for all my normal use then?
13:10<jimpop>Liquid: yes, that's standard
13:11<Liquid>We'll I have all that set up with passwords
13:11<petn-randall>As long as they ask for passwords, using your sudo account is fine.

13:22<somiaj>SamB: look for packages like 'xfonts-base' and 'fonts-foo' and 'ttf-foo' those are various packages that can install fonts on your system
13:22<SamB>ttf-foo doesn't do much for the old standbys ;-)

18:45<squisher>phillipsjk, but that's not a debian package, right? Useful to know, yes, but it is against debian policy I believe :)

18:47<squisher>Gomex, I'm sure it is a dependency, but it probably doesn't require a specific version of libssl

23:43<quentusrex>Anyone know of some docs on debian package migration process?

23:44-!-erol_ [~erol@190.42.236.6] has quit [Remote host closed the connection]
23:45<quentusrex>somiaj, well, specifically I've been experimenting with a custom local apt repo, and while digging around I was curious how package migration happens between unstable->testing->stable->oldstable distributions
23:46<quentusrex>are there actual changes made to the package? since the change log is upload specifies it's target upload distribution? or are the packages just 'copied' into the downstream distributions?
23:47<centrx>quentusrex, Packages are uploaded by package maintainer to unstable
23:47<centrx>quentusrex, Package automatically migrates to testing after a certain period of time bug-less, specifically http://www.debian.org/devel/testing
23:47<quentusrex>As best I can tell the source package would just be rebuilt specifically for that distribution, which would make sense if the dependencies are different.
23:48<centrx>quentusrex, Testing is frozen at a certain time in the release cycle
23:48<centrx>quentusrex, Then a release is made, which makes for stable
23:48<centrx>quentusrex, oldstable is the previous stable release.
23:48-!-dous [~dous@cm42.zeta104.maxonline.com.sg] has joined #debian
23:48<quentusrex>yes, I'm familiar with the distributions. I'm curious though if when a new stable is tagged, and the previous stable becomes the old stable,
23:48<SamB>quentusrex: in fact, there are packages that don't get touched at all between one release and the next
23:49<quentusrex>if the package repos must now rebuild new versions of the packages, with all the upload target field in the changelogs now updated to say 'oldstable'
23:50<SamB>no, new versions are only needed when they are needed, not just because a new release of Debian is involved
23:50<quentusrex>for instance looking at the source package of nginx from a wheezy box, I see most all of the change log entries reference unstable, except the most recent which is wheezy-backports

23:59<quentusrex>All that was said was "Migration of packages to other distributions is handled outside of the upload process." Where it would be quiet illuminating to have a section that described, or linked to how the upload target distribution field was or was not used.
