06:11<nevyn>!derivative
06:11<dpkg>Your distribution may be based on and have software in common with Debian, but it is not Debian. We don't and cannot know what changes were made by your distribution (compare http://futurist.se/gldt/). #debian only supports Debian; please respect our choice to volunteer here to help Debian users. Support for other distributions is off-topic on #debian, even if your own distro's channel is clueless or non-existent.

If I do a dig against the server with fqdn it works , so it seems my debian box is only responding to first response which is "not found" probably from the first dns server

15:39<somiaj>This really isn't the palce to support such software. Maybe someone else will respond, but there are other places to support dvd ripping software. If you use mplayer/mencoder check out their support. If you choose to use different software they may have info to. 15:41<Mazuego>ok somiaj... thank you very much

15:42<somiaj>,v libssl1.0.0

15:42<somiaj>connor: why are you running the experimental libssl on a server?
15:43<connor>somiaj: Wheezy but I updated to the experimental because the Wheezy, Jessie, and Sid updates werent working. I realize it is because I require the libssl update.

15:44<somiaj>connor: you should never mix debian release, but mixing wheezy/jessie/sid/experimentail packages on a server leaves you open to lots of bugs and vunlability. The experimential packages are not fixed, most likely the newest libssl1.0.2 will be fixed but if that gets into experimential and when is anyones guess
15:45-!-j0lly [~j0lly@162.218.232.197] has joined #debian
15:45<somiaj>not only do you not have security, you will create bugs due ot mixing that can cause a lot more. If you really have mixed these things you need to fix your machine, you could try to downgrade it back to wheezy (This will be hard) or back up and reinstall is the best thing to do right now.
15:46<connor>somiaj: I will downgrade. I am curious why libssl never updated along with openssl, if that was my original issue.

21:31<Auroch>hid3, could somebody tell me what's the Debian way for obtaining accounts with only the password locked so they can continue to connect with ssh key but never with the password ? Something like the !x in /etc/passwd but maintaining a normal hash in the /etc/shadow ... because when a use passwd -l in Wheezy the account is completely locked even trough ssh with key ... not as explained in the manpage.

23:27<remus_salamander>hey guys. I'm looking to set up either an IRC or XMPP server for personal use between a couple friends and myself.
23:28<remus_salamander>any suggestions on which program/daemon to use?

23:29<ncl>remus_salamander: You can just use one of the hundreds of available servers for either, really, and with OTR you don't really need to worry about malicious admins or whatever
23:29<ncl>remus_salamander: for IRC, Unreal is the most common for smaller networks, dunno about xmpp
23:30<remus_salamander>Thanks, I've heard good things about Unreal
