01:44<jm_>!mint
01:44<dpkg>Linux Mint is not Debian and is not supported in #debian. Please use their forums at http://forums.linuxmint.com/ or join #linuxmint-help on irc.spotchat.org for support. Linux Mint is variously based on <Ubuntu> with a "Linux Mint Debian Edition" (LMDE) also available, based on <testing>. See also <based on debian>, <mintppc>.
01:44<jm_>!raspberry pi
01:44<dpkg>The Raspberry Pi is an open hardware design based on a Broadcom system-on-a-chip, requiring <non-free> <firmware>. Debian's <armel> port works fine, but does not use the Pi's hardware floating point unit. Debian's <armhf> port targets a newer revision of the ARM chip than is in the Pi, so armhf will not work on it. http://wiki.debian.org/RaspberryPi http://www.raspberrypi.org/ #raspberrypi on irc.freenode.net.

Derived from merging two penetration-testing distributions: WHAX (formerly WHOPPIX) and Auditor Security Linux.

06:36<Xshad0w>i cant even log in for the first time
06:36<jonadab>Superficially, you can accomplish that (letting the server know the FQDN of the client) by adding PTR records to the domain server that the mail server queries. But that may not be the ideal solution, depending on your setup.

06:45<bdog7>Xshad0w, all I can do is give you a little direction, for ptr records, look at your dns provider and add what ever you need. for smtp ip range or authentication research the software iredmail uses if you wish to use that, which is postfix. I am not familiar with postfix. more of a sendmail man myself.
06:46<Xshad0w>bdog7 can i use sendmail to setup a mail server and which can have users able to download and send mail via outlook

06:51<jonadab>Historically, it would be more accurate to say that Postfix is a sendmail alternative. (Sendmail used to be, at one time, the software that the overwhelming majority of mail servers ran, before there were as many good options as now.)

16:04<dondelelcaro>rusya_rr: you can only have one default gateway
16:04<vook>rusya_rr: "manually pick interfaces to become *part* of the default route". This implies you'd like to have several default routes. Again, are you seeking network load balancing or bandwidth sharing?
16:04<dondelelcaro>rusya_rr: if you need non-default routes to route specific networks, then you don't use a gateway for those
16:06<jonadab>Well, in traditional networking parlance, you can have a "gateway" that leads somewhere other than the whole internet, e.g., if eth1 is connected to the 10.0.3.* segment, 10.0.3.1 might be a gateway to all of 10.0.*
16:06<jonadab>But the only way I know how to set that up is using the route command.

19:31<somiaj>mintgreen: well to manage user accounts on your system you need root privlages as a normal user doesn't not have this power
19:31<somiaj>mintgreen: I'm unsure if gnome gives you these privalges by using gdm3 but in this case it might be crashign when it tries to popup a gksu or similar program to have you enter in root password to get the permsisions it needs

19:32<somiaj>mintgreen: what do you want to change that is a user account setting?

19:42<awal_>somiaj, why he must create another username ? Why no login as root and just set a pass for his username already created?
19:43<mtn>awal_: he wants his gnome tools to work and for his normal user they don't work. a little trouble shooting to see if it is his current user's config files.
19:45<awal_>mtn, ok, ok. that's a bit strange issue...
19:45<vook_>I wouldn't advise this to a novice, but I'd first troubleshoot it with 'ssh -Y root@localhost' and try to load the manager - could be permissions issue. If that doesn't work, it's probably a dependancy problem or something else. Either way, clicking an icon isn't going to give any feedback helpful for debugging, better to find out how to launch from a terminal.

23:37<somiaj>ncl: to have a encrypted filesystem putting it on a file or on a partition would take up about the same space, so I would use a partition. But twb seems ot have some suggestions on how to encrypted the stuff you actually want to encrypt.
23:37<twb>enand: when you compile from source, dpkg doesn't know about it, so your system gets messy

23:38<twb>somiaj: I'm being fairly facetious at this point :-)
23:38<somiaj>enand: the difference is in the end you use dpkg to install the package and matain it in the dependencies. If you just install the compiled sour ceon your machine you have to manage it (look at stow) and maybe use equivs to tell dpkg that this software is really instaleed here
23:38<enand>ok, that makes sense. thanks.
23:38<somiaj>twb: sure, but if he wanted a simple solution to encrypt some stuff it isn't htat bad of one. (:
23:39<ncl>erm, I want to encrypt my entire $HOME, but due to the machine being a small arm box, I'd like something light that doesn't require making a whole new partition
23:39<ncl>I think I did something once like that with ecryptfs or something
23:39<twb>ecryptfs is the option that springs to mind
23:39<twb>I don't know anything about it tho
23:39<ncl>oh
23:40<ncl>most documentation now about encrypting talks about using luks/dm-crypt or whatever, which I've had no experience with
23:40<somiaj>it sounds like it would just put an encrypted filesystem on a file. But I don't see how this is gonna take up less space than using a partition.
23:40<somiaj>or be lighter.
23:42<ncl>somiaj: if I had to partition, then if I ran out of space on whichever side of the partition, I'd have to take the machine down and resize partions, and besides that, effort also into taking it down and repartitioning in the first place

23:42<somiaj>ncl: you would effectivally have to do the same if it was a file, difference is you need to resize the file, then resize the filesystem on the file.
23:43<somiaj>but yes you can use a file just as you would use a normal partition, difference is the data is a file in a filesystem instead of directally on a hd partition.
23:43<ncl>Doesn't ecryptfs' grow automatically?
23:43<somiaj>maybe it's tools automates what I'm talking about

23:46<twb>it's something like a fuse module that looks at crypted files like /home/twb.ecryptfs/totally-not-porn-honest.png and presents it as the same file, but decrypted, on the mountpoint

23:47<dpkg>tasksel is a program to select and install "tasks": a collection of packages for a system to perform a specific task (e.g. desktop environment, web server). Ask me about <standard task>, <server tasks> and <laptop task>. http://wiki.debian.org/tasksel
23:47<sakax_>!standard task
23:47<dpkg>it has been said that standard task is a "task" that should be installed on all machines during the installer stage. It installs packages that are important, required and standard (i.e. "aptitude install ~pstandard ~prequired ~pimportant"). Packages in the <essential> set are always installed. Also ask me about <tasksel>.
23:48<somiaj>sakax_: /msg dpkg tasksel, no need to spam the channel
