02:41<kittonian>hi all. anyone around? really need some help here
02:41<kittonian>i upgraded my server from squeeze to wheezy and it broke a ton of stuff
02:42<kittonian>i've solved some of it already but need some assistance with the rest
02:42<kittonian>here's a few of the issues
02:42<kittonian>1. In certain dirs I when doing an ls -al I get an error that says column number 3 is out of range 0..2 segmentation fault
02:43<kittonian>other dirs (most of them) work just fine to do an ls -al. doing an ls in the bad dirs works but not with the -al
02:43-!-fr33k [~fvb@546B3A3F.cm-12-4a.dynamic.ziggo.nl] has joined #debian
02:44<kittonian>2. My Qmail installation seems to be up and running without issue but I am not receiving any mail, nor can I send any mail (tells me it can't send to my server). I've tried stopping/starting the various qmail services and they all seem to work just fine, plus there's no errors in the logs
02:44-!-elementary [~elementar@c-50-137-176-254.hsd1.or.comcast.net] has joined #debian
02:45<kittonian>3. I use nsswitch and have users/groups in a Postgres database. Apparently the upgrade removed libnss-pgsql and when I installed libnss-pgsql2 it started working again, but I am getting a bunch of "could not connect to database" messages both on boot and when I connect via proftpd

02:59<helmut_>hi
03:02<Myon>kittonian: 1 is an nss problem (though a weird one)
03:02<kittonian>Myon: that's what I figured and what I'm working on right now to no avail
03:03<kittonian>I installed libnss-pgsql2 but is there something else I'm missing?
03:03<Myon>it's probably related to 3
03:03<Myon>is PostgreSQL running? on the correct port?
03:04<Myon>also, if nss doesn't work, no wonder mail doesn't work either
03:04<kittonian>yes, it's running on the correct port. i can connect to in via pgsql and zope's zpsycopgda is connecting to it and running db aware websites. also, nsswitch is sort of working because after installing libnss-pgsql2 I could once again su to users that are located in the pgsql db

03:05<Myon>kittonian: ok
03:05<Myon>no idea if there's been schema changes between nss-pgsql and ...2, though
03:05<kittonian>there seems to be something up with the libc upgrade because my paths were completely gone
03:05<kittonian>i had to add the pgsql and mysql lib paths back in and run ldconfig
03:06<Myon>ugh?
03:06-!-screenn [~screen@5.248.37.29] has quit [Ping timeout: 480 seconds]
03:06<Myon>postgresql doesn't need to be in ld.so.conf
03:06<Myon>possibly you didn't restart everything after the upgrade, or the upgrade was incomplete
03:06-!-erol [~erol@ANantes-552-1-272-61.w83-195.abo.wanadoo.fr] has joined #debian
03:06<kittonian>yeah, this upgrade is borked. don't know how it got released. i tried it two weeks ago on a really old server that was running lenny and it screwed that one up so bad I had to reinstall (luckily I was planning on it anyway)
03:07<kittonian>this however was an up to date squeeze server that I needed a newer perl for some modules. otherwise I would have never done this
03:07<kittonian>i cannot start over from scratch on this box
03:08<kittonian>i restarted the entire server after upgrading
03:08-!-fkb [~fkb@85.218.163.15] has joined #debian
03:08<kittonian>i needed the paths in ld.so.conf because proftpd depends on nsswitch and thus pgsql
03:08<kittonian>couldn't even start proftpd after upgrading because of that one
03:09-!-fkb [~fkb@85.218.163.15] has quit []
03:09<kittonian>and without it zpsycopgda was broken because it couldn't find libpq.so.4

03:14<Myon>kittonian: squeeze actually works fine, though you seem to have quite some bitrot in there
03:14<Myon>(libpq5 is there since end of 2006)
03:15<kittonian>ok, well, this is what i'm using apparently
03:15<kittonian>right now i'm just trying to resolve these couple of issues
03:15-!-wigirc [~wigirc@emercom.kamchatka.ru] has quit [Read error: Connection reset by peer]
03:16<Myon>wheezy moved some libs to /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/, though that should be totally transparent if that's in /etc/ld.so.conf.d/x86_64-linux-gnu.conf
03:16<Myon>plus the correct entry in /etc/ld.so.conf
03:18<Myon>anyway, if you ask something more concrete, we can probably help
03:19-!-smulverine [~smulverin@n219078244236.netvigator.com] has quit [Quit: WeeChat 0.4.2]
03:19<kittonian>i don't know how to ask something more concrete. i can only explain the issues i'm having. if I knew the exact concrete issue i could probably google. i'm looking for assistance figuring out what the issues are that are causing these problems
03:20<kittonian>this is a 32 bit system btw
03:21<Myon>cat /etc/ld.so.conf
03:21<Myon>include /etc/ld.so.conf.d/*.conf

03:21<Myon>meh
03:21<Myon>do you have that?
03:22<themill>the multiarch path for i386 also changed between squeeze and wheezy, didn't it?
03:22<Myon>/etc/ld.so.conf.d/i486-linux-gnu.conf:/usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu
03:22<Myon>/etc/ld.so.conf.d/i486-linux-gnu.conf:/usr/lib/i486-linux-gnu
03:23<Myon>though if your config is missing these, you'd probably have much more trouble
03:23<kittonian>i have two files. i486-linux-gnu.conf and libc.conf
03:23<Myon>plus the include in ld.so.conf?
03:24<Myon>is that proftp from Debian or source?
03:24<kittonian>include /etc/ld.so.conf.d/*.conf

04:10<planetmaker>TuxMirage, all three isos together make up the full set of dvd isos
04:10<Myon>kittonian: a wild guess would be that wheezy has libnss3, while squeeze has something older, and you removed that package

13:53<dwi>after upgrading kernel i cant login to gnome 3. why? what comand to check first?
13:53<somiaj>ignis: basic steps from a debian install 1) add contrib non-free to your sources.list, 2) apt-get update, 3) apt-get install linux-headers-`uname -r` fglrx-driver
13:54<ignis>I did that
13:54<somiaj>ignis: 4) add 4 lines to an xorg.conf file to tell xorg to use fglrx, then restart x

13:54<ignis>I didn't do that
13:54<somiaj>ignis: no you didn't you downlaoded a deb and tried to install them by hand, you didn't add the stuff to your sources.list and have apt figure out the dependencies for you to install
13:54<ignis>Didnt tell xorg to start fglrx
13:54<somiaj>ignis: and thus you messed up yoru dependcies and may have to reinstall a bunch of stuff to get it to work
13:55<ignis>Yes, I downloaded the .deb and tried those commands too
13:55<ignis>Yeah, thats what happened
13:55<ignis>Messed out in a large range
13:56<somiaj>that is because you didn't follow the instructions, you tried to use dpkg to manually install. again Use apt, it figures out all these dependencies for you so things odn't get messed up
13:56<ignis>OK
13:56<ignis>Got it, will only do apt-get or aptitude in the future
13:57<somiaj>not sure what you are going to have to do to fix this install, but you maight have to reinstall all the packages that were removed and configure it correctly
