02:05<ncl>heh: `amixer (s)set Master toggle` mutes master /and/ Speaker||Headphone depending on if headphones are plugged in, but on toggling again, only unmutes master, not Speaker or Headphone. Apparently caused by pulse, and fixed with adding -D pulse, except this doesn't work in the case of ACPI because pulse by default is set up for user sessions...

07:56<planetmaker>yolo, that's tricky
07:57<planetmaker>if you mean debian-wheezy. If you haven't looked, look first at the backports repo. But if it's not there...
07:57<planetmaker>at least don't try to install it from jessie or sid. That will wrek havoc with your install for sure :)
07:58<planetmaker>though maybe you could run your gnome in a jessie or sid schroot

15:34<charles_>Hi! I am a new user of debian. I partitioned encrypted with luks & from wheezy to jessie (testing) to have access to cool features like gnome-music. My problem is that I have some innacurate information... 1. I have only one drive that I am using in moment and It shows me that it is encrypted and I cant unlock it with my pwd but i am using it... 2. Baobab is showing the same with the main system with the size of 400mb... that is almost full but I just do
15:34<charles_>wnloaded data of few gigs and it still works. Thank you, I dont know how to resolve my issue

16:20<ompaul>it is normal for a logical volume not to sit on partitions accurately
16:20<ompaul>what is the real quesiton
16:20<charles_>1. I have only one drive that I am using in moment and It shows me that it is encrypted and I cant unlock it with my pwd but i am using it... 2. Baobab is showing the same with the main system with the size of 400mb... that is almost full but I just do
16:20<charles_><charles_> wnloaded data of few gigs and it still works.
16:20*charles_ paste myself :P
16:21<ompaul>well firstly your first problem is this
16:21<ompaul>your /root is VERY SMALL

22:51<serpardum>How can I find out why my computer keeps locking up/resetting when rebooting? I just had to cold boot it 6 times to get it to boot. Once it' s booted it'll run for day no problem.

22:53<jpinx>serpardum: you could look through dmesg and the syslog for clues
22:54<jmcnaught>serpardum: you could take not of the exact time that this happens, and once your computer boots successfully look for error message around that time in /var/log/syslog and /var/log/dmesg (and the older ones that have been rotated perhaps)

22:57<serpardum>Is there anyway I can open a filebrowers with sysop privaledges so I can look at the files in gedit rather than cat in root terminal?

22:58<jmcnaught>serpardum: if you add your user to the "adm" group you can read log files without being root
22:59<jmcnaught>serpardum: but that means that everything you run as that user has access to the log files and anything else "adm" group can access. probably better than being root unnecessarily though
23:00<serpardum>Oh. Found "Syslog Viewer" while looking for user properties. I can use that.

23:08<jpinx>serpardum: is it a laptop or dessktop? Are you suffering some intermittent power issue maybe ?
23:08<serpardum>desktop
23:09<serpardum>No, it's an old desktop. Once I get it booted I can use it forever til I shut it down.
23:09<serpardum>But I have to keep cold rebooting to get it up. 5 or 6 times
23:09<serpardum>it either locks up with a black screen with a watch on it which is usually a movable mouse, but when it locks up nothing.
23:09<jpinx>could be any number of things in old hardware
23:09<serpardum>or, It locks up after I log in before it shows the destop. Or, it reboots after I log in
23:10<serpardum>But, once I get it going, it's fine
23:10<serpardum>Just annoying as all get out
23:10<jpinx>dodgy ram etc
23:10<serpardum>I've done a system test using the install CD
23:10<serpardum>memory tests fine
23:10<serpardum>so does the hard
23:10<serpardum>hard driver
23:11<serpardum>Well, seems like it's a mystery that will never get solved.
23:12<jpinx>next time it happens you need to go through dmesg in detail, and syslog. There must be something in there giving a clue
23:12<serpardum>I have them in logs now
