00:00<SamB>except that most people install systems that can be executed by their CPU natively ...

00:05<somiaj>jean-michel: what 'fails'?
00:05-!-blazed [~digi@0001b89e.user.oftc.net] has quit [Remote host closed the connection]
00:08<jean-michel>after "setting up flashplugin-nonfree" I get "link to Adobe Flash Player not found on http://www.adobe.com/ at get-upstream-version.pl line 57."
00:08<jean-michel>When I installed debian last night it was fine, no problem, but I've reinstalled twice from the same usb thumbdrive today and I got this both times.
00:08<jean-michel>I may just wait it out.
00:10<jean-michel>I know I can install it manually but I'd prefer doing it with aptitude.

00:11<themill>I believe this is a known problem
00:13<jean-michel>That would be bizarre, I've done the same OS install steps as last night, same repos and everything.

00:16<somename>ssh $remote_user@$remote_host Do I actually type the $'s?
00:17<jean-michel>AH, I haven't looked hard enough https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=752023
00:17<jean-michel>It also looks like adobe may have updated their page, so my best bet is a manual install or to wait it out.
00:22<somename>Rather than repeating the same command over and over in debian terminal, is there a key I can press such that the characters from the last command are auto filled in ?
00:23<somename>copy and paste at the terminal does not work for me as it just executes the command after the paste
00:23<jean-michel>!!
00:23<dpkg>I'm not your csh prompt!

01:54<somenamevm>oops
01:54<xjuan>.local is for mdns as in multicast dns
01:54<xjuan>you need to install avahi in the host for it to work
01:54<somenamevm>I dont know what that is yet
01:55<xjuan>and if you have more than one host with the same name
01:55<xjuan>well i guess it will return the ip of the first to respond
01:55<xjuan>avahi is the deamon that respond to mDNS request
01:55<xjuan>i think its installed by default
01:55<somenamevm>deamon?
01:56<xjuan>ps -A | grep avahi
01:56<somenamevm>I have seen the word, never knew what it meant

01:58<xjuan>well you can forward X aplications too

08:01<Brigo>playonlinux is an autoconfigurantion wine program. It install the version the game needs, the configuraton configure it and then installs the game.

14:07<phillipsjk>bitcrunsher, not sure if this applies to you machine: "In the AC'97 design, the audio output is sent to the jack. If the headphones are not plugged in, the jack directs the audio to the return pins that are connected to the speakers. When a headphone is plugged into the front panel jack, the audio signal goes to the headphones; the return pins are disconnected, so no audio signal goes to the speakers." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/I

14:08<phillipsjk>https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intel_High_Definition_Audio#Front_panel_connector TL;DR: the audio may go through that broken connector, so there may be no software fix.

16:18<jmcnaught>monod: aptitude works a little different from what i understand, it removes the dependencies at the same time. apt-get vs aptitude is mostly a matter of preference. 22:02<L0uk3>The version I want installs except for a few dependencies.
